As a personnel move, this is unremarkable at best, but there are two key factors in play here:
-This is only the third first rounder to be traded this year. The consensus through the league seems to be that this is a very, very good draft, from top to bottom. If that first rounder gets the Coyotes into the top two (and this is, for the record, the first time I've viewed that as a possibility), it's a steal.
-It frees up a lot of salary, and now the Coyotes can add in other deals. The teams they're rumored to be dealing with (Philly, Boston, etc.) are all pretty close to the cap, so the flexibility to take some salary back means an even higher premium.

Agreed, I like the sounds of that, we will just have to wait and see what else happens.
OH YEAH!!!! I JUST remembered the worthless goon is sitting out with a CUNCUSSION complements of a Boogaard elbow. So not only was he an undersized enforcer, now he's an undersized enforcer with concussion issues. Not only is he worthless, but he's damaged goods. Honestly, I'd have like the deal a whole lot better if it were just the third liner and the crappy pick. Leave the waste of space in Alberta.
I'm gonna throw in my obligatory comment on the effect of the upcoming Escrow revenue sharing refund:
Every $ the Coyotes spend or don't spend is effectively doubled the rest of the season.
- If the team saves $1 in salary, the league will give the team another $1 for a total of +$2 to the bottom line.
- If the team spends an extra $1 in salary, the league will give the team $1 less. Again effectively doubling the bottom line cost to -$2.

What was it Maloney was saying about "HOCKEY" deals? ****ing liar.
The cuncussed shrimp of a goon, Prust, also missed most of the season with a broken jaw! YEAH, another goon too beaten and broken to actually fight! ONE FEDORUK WASN'T ENOUGH!!! Prust has had double digits, in minutes, just once in his NHL career. Another five shifts per game goon with a glass face!
Prust isn't a goon, where are you getting this from. He was on a flames team with alot of depth , he has good hands and has scored 90pts in the whl with Moosejaw . When did The fridge ever do this?
Where are you getting this from? Prust played for London in the OHL, and he never scored more than 52 points. He's mostly worthless.

Those are good points - thanks for the perspective (and the ever-reasonable tone).
At first, I was fine with the deal. Now I hear that the Coyotes had to add a 3rd rounder and that Calgary has the choice of whether the 1st round pick is this year or next. Now you can add me to the pissed list.

I heard on TSN in canada that it's calgarys option whether it's an '09 or '10 pick
