I think only very few teams are interested in acquiring Jokinen. So if this is the best deal Maloney can get, I will take it. Jokinen will not have the pressure to carry the team in Calgary so I think he will be successful with Iginla.

Hope the 1st pick is in 2009.
With Prust on the team, the Coyotes can get rid of Fedoruk.
I like Lombardi, he is fast, can kill penalties, & can take faceoffs. The Flames have been waiting for 3 years for him to break out offensively but he hasn't been able to do it. Hopefully he can produce for the Coyotes next season but he is so versatile to play other part of the game too.

While I'm not exactly happy with the return, I do think Lombardi will have much better chemistry with Doan. They have played together before, on the same line, at the 2007 IIHF World Championships.

Stats from 2007 IIHF World Championships

TSN said there's also a 3rd round pick going with Jokinen, and that the 1st round pick is Calgary's choice on whether it's for '09 or 2010. Ugh, that just makes it worse.

I think they did a whole lot worse to his ass than hand it to him.

I officially hate this deal after being confusing Prust for a different player. Maloney got his handed an ass kicking, they must of hated Jokinen.

Lombardi makes $3.4 million less than Jokinen.

At least we'll get some laughs. Watching Maloney try to act like this was a good trade will be hilarious. The same goes for the Lombardi interview, where he'll have to act like he's happy to be coming to Phoenix.

Unfortunately that presumes there's a team out there that wants the next two years of Fedoruk's contract at $1m/year.

Will Mueller ever go back to C?

Are we looking at:

Turris
Hanzal
Lombardi
Winnik

Down the middle?

We have Lisin, Boedker, Carcillo, Lindstrom who are our wings. I think we need to go after a big time winger in UFA to take pressure off Doan. Man I'm depressed.

when this gets done, you have a stud in Lombardi.

i expect (hope) Lombardi to beak out in PHX

great trade for both teams, imo
Ha ha ha,Lombardi a stud,he was one of the softest players in Calgary who has never reached his supposed potential despite playing with their best players over several seasons. He is super fast but hardly a stud and has little finish around the net, probably why Calgary gave up on him.

I don't like this part of the Coyotes giving up draft choice and Calgary's choice of giving up which pick.

Maloney talked up and down about hockey deals. This was obviously a dollars deal. At least I can rest easy, knowing that my team will be as close to the cap floor as possible. Comforting thought.

Agreed. Despite numerous posters wanting to dump Hale and Fedoruk, it's highly unlikely. I can't see anyone trading for either of them or picking them off waivers. And there's no way the Coyotes can afford to pay them to play in San Antonio.

The ONLY reason that this trade is any good at all is if what everyone's been saying about Olli being a cancer in the room is true.

This is entirely about money, right?

I mean, from Maloney's perspective.

Throwing in the 3rd was very Barney-like.

Maybe it is a hockey deal. Maybe Jokinen is every bit the cancer he's been rumored to be. Maybe this team got better just by moving him.

The Yotes give up a 3rd and Calgary has the option of 09 or 10? What the ****?! This was a straight up salary dump!

Sure, but Lombardi + trash and a pick? I knew his trade value would not be what it was last summer and that the return would be disappointing... but if Maloney wanted to be rid of him this badly, he must be the advanced melanoma of locker rooms.

Any way you look at it, this was a bad deal for the Coyotes. Hockey deal, salary dump, you name it. There's no value here except for the first rounder, and we don't even pick when to use it.

Barnett must have called Maloney and insisted he throw in the 3rd rounder, just like old times.

Good thing we did our homework before trading Keith Ballard for him.

I believe he's thinking of Troy Brouwer. Brouwer is also not going to be an impact NHLer. Funny thing, I actually wanted the Coyotes to draft Prust, as well as Brouwer in their draft years.

I confused Prust with Pardy and got really excited.

Then I realized it wasn't Pardy.

Meh.

I like Lombardi though.

I like Lombardi, too. I've been calling for him to replace Reino for months. Not for Jokinen, though. Actually, screw Olli Jokinen. I don't like the idea of trading Ballard for Lombardi, I guess is what my real problem is. Oh well, at least Lombardi is a whole lot better looking than Jokinen. Maybe I can get my girlfriend to come to games with me again(she was not pleased when they dealt Ballard).
