The title is confusing me. Do we have Kolzig?

When I heard Burke say that there was a minor deal involving an AHLer at the press conference, I thought right away Tlusty or Stralman. But thankfully it was some guy that I've never heard of.

Great trade Burkie

Kolzig was a last minute trade to the Leafs, however he is injured and will never put on the Jersey.
Heward has concussion problems and is a UFA, and Rogers is often injured (including minors and WHL) and a RFA.

Good work here, spending MLSE money for a pick, even just a fourth. Encouraging sign from management
By far the most exciting thing of the day. MLSE, during a very tough financial time opens up the piggy bank and lets Burke go shopping for a mid round pick.

Never thought I'd see the day. Suspect it will amount to little, but it's the thought that counts.

ummm... then why did we get him?!????

Why did we get Heward since he has concussion problems and is a UFA @ season's end & same with this Rogers guy. I'm lost as to Burke's thinking on this one.

He got a pick for salary cap relief .. thats all.

Trade breakdown

To Toronto
4th Round pick (carolina's)
Kolzig: UFA (Will never play for us, will prob retire at seasons end)
Heward: UFA (Will probaly never play with the big club and walk at seasons end)
Rogers: RFA (Depends how he does)

To Tampa
Petiot

So Really its Petiot for Rogers + 4th

the 4th is for us taking on the rest of those guys salary for the rest of the year

Exactly. We didn't get him per se, but rather his salary, relieving Tampa of the burden.

this was a salary dump for Tampa Bay; now allowing them to qualify for revenue sharing

Leafs got a 4th out of it and Rogers for the Marlies

They sent us enough salary that they qualify for revenue sharing now

Kolzig (salary dump)
Heward (salary dump)
Rogers (to replace Petiot on Marlies)
4th round pick (thanks for taking our salary Burke)

Well put. We bought a pick, and you don't expect much out of a fourth, but it's the philosophical direction you have love here. This is not the BoG dictating moves, this is Burke taking advantage of a situation as such he can. Wonderful thing.

TB does this to save money. We get absolutely nothing from it in terms of expecting anything for the team in player personal (short of a wild card 4th pick.. closer to third one would suspect from TB actually). We bought a pick.

Never thought about that. Good deal, we got a free pick. Might turn out to be nothing but it's kind of a no-risk trade.

4th rounder is better than nothing. Petiot isn't good at all and Kolzig and Heward are free agents at the end of this year. How long is Rogers signed? He would be a UFA wouldn't he? This deal was just to "buy" a pick so why not. 4th rounder may turn into something, you never know.

We're not up against the cap LG, no concern there, and all three contracts expire after this season, so no long term obligations. Pretty much just $500,000 in salary for the rest of this year for a fourth round pick in the draft.

Apparently the 2nd rounder is the Oilers (from Kotalik trade), not sure if this makes sense because Dom's trade was over an hour before Kotalik's.

And the 4th is Carolina's from the Jussi Jokinen trade.

The site would highlight it if they were uncertain about it though, so I guess I'll trust that.

edit: Draft picks:
- 1st
- Oilers 2nd
- Rangers 2nd
- 3rd
- Carolina's 4th
- CONDITIONAL Rangers 4th (if Rangers get to 3rd round of playoffs - IMO not happening)
- 5th
- 6th
- 7th

Is Rogers a free agent after this year? He'd be a RFA, too, wouldn't he?

RFA, yes, didn't mean to imply he was a UFA, just liberally throwing "Free Agent". They have first bid on his rights, but point being no obligation if they don't feel like it.

edit: actually, I didn't throw "Free Agent" around lol.. I'll stand by that all contracts expire at the end of the season
