Strange move by kings to include a Second rounder with this deal. Another Oft-injured player heads to LA.

O Sullivan will work out good in Edmonton.
Cole Back with Stall, nice for them too.

Oh, and I'm hoping Hemsky and Kotalik can have some on-ice chemistry.

I like this trade because everyone gets something nice. LA gets even more for their future(If Willy comes back next near they will be a force) Edmonton gets a good young player and a decent forward, while Carolina gets help now to make the playoffs.

I believe it's the CAR 2nd pick that came to EDM and then went to BUF. It was reported by radio in Edmonton.

I think its pretty impressive from an Edmonton stand point. You take the under achieving Cole and turn him into O'Sullivan and Kotalik. I don't think many people here would have thought that was possible.

As for Carolina, yuck. I'm fine with trading Williams for O'Sullivan and the 2nd rounder but then trading that to Edmonton!? Terrible decision, even if it's meant to help Staal produce.

This could be homer talk but I think the Oilers got excellent value for a soon-to-be UFA Cole.

excellent moves...Kotalik and Cole for both UFAs so that a wash...plus O'Sullivan is younger, cheaper and more potential than Cole at this point

Mediocre from what I've seen. And I think he'll always be overrated and mediocre. Should be a decent 2nd line extremely one way (offense) player, but never the first line player a lot of people thought/think he could/can be.

He plays the PK and was voted 'best defensive player' by his team last year.

I am still appalled by DL's complete ignorance in trading O'SULLIVAN for JUSTIN WILLIAMS. Utterly disgusting.

Wow, Erik Cole is worth O'Sullivan AND a 2nd?

Kotalik has more points than Cole too.

The kid has skills, but he has been frustrating this season. The one thing that you will notice right away is his propensity to shoot the puck from everywhere, and I mean EVERYWHERE. Just over the blueline? Shoot. In the corner with three guys between him & the net? Shoot. On the goal line at the wall? Shoot. Behind the net? Yup, SHOOT. He's quite the puck hog at the moment. Not to mention that unfortunately, a lot of those shots get blocked.

He is still young and I'm sure he can be molded to make better choices. All in all, the oilers are getting a good young player.

Have not read this thread, but let me guess that some will "award" this deal to Edmonton simply because O'Sullivan is...young(er)!

I don't.

If - big if - Williams stays healthy, LA is going to be mighty happy.

Like the deal for Carolina a lot. Cole never should have left the Canes, and as much as he did not fit in Edmonton, he fits like a glove alongside Staal in Carolina.

And, yes, the deal makes total sense for Edmonton, especially since Cole was just not working out and is an impending free agent.

Good to see creative GMs can still wheel and deal creatively in this cap era.

Pretty much what he said.

In the past, he seemed to show more tenacity, awareness, and attention to defense, but that's faded a bit. Never really developed chemistry with any other forwards, it seems. The change of scenery should do him well--he's got lots of potential, but it wasn't happening here.

He sounds pretty good from an Oilers point of view. If you look at our roster, we barely have a single shoot-first player. All pass-first.

Carolina actually got Calgary's 2nd rounder, plus a 5th from Edmonton.
