The State of the Tank- post deadline

After the deadline, here are the moves that i think will help the tank.

Martin Gerber/Toskala injury- if he plays the way he has played in Ottawa, more losses for the Leafs in order to gain ground on the competition. The injury to Toskala gives this team a chance to lose more games and not gain any extra points as a result of Tosk's strong efforts, like vs the Devils.

Antropov/Moore- the subtraction of these players, takes two key players from two key lines.

what do you think?

the best "trade" we can possibly do in the comming weeks is lose every game.

why waste draft picks moving up like last year when losing does the same thing, free of cost of course

It's frustrating to see the Leafs get a few picks back when they were giving them away last summer. Obviously two picks in the second round is better than nothing, but I do feel that Fletcher really depleted the picks last year.

#1 goalie on IR, top player out of the picture, and the guy who's nothing but heart goes to buffalo

plus a goalie who couldnt make it in ottawa is now the starter and best of all, the players we brought in are almost all hurt!

let the decline begin!

We lost a key player on our 3 top lines if you include Hagman's injury, though it's probably not for the entire season.

The depth at D is still too good for a completely successful Tank, imo.

Antro and Moore gone. Hagman, Toskala and Kabs out for the forseeable future and Reitz and Gerber recalled. Let the tank begin!

It is highly unlikely that the Leafs were going to catch the Islanders, even if they moved more of their assets (Kubina, Kaberle, Poni, others). The Leafs now have 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4(if Rags win 2 rounds) in first 120 picks. The Leafs now lose two of their top forwards and best goaltender (of late anyways). They need to move up the draft board to top 5 for any chance of winning the lottery. If Burke does not, you can assure that one of Kubina or Kaberle or both will be moved in the offseason at the draft. Both should fetch good assets and likely a minimum of another first and second (with prospects, players). If the Leafs could then parlay those picks into one of the top 5 guys....I would say that this was a very successful day.....The rebuild is in full swing...We might not get Tavares, but I think Taylor Hall is a very, very legitimate shot.

Of course he did.

We're looking at the big picture for the future here. I've always thought that Burke was just a giant jerk, but now that the blue haze glasses have settled on, I see an honest (maybe too honest) attitude and a guy that will be good for our team in the long run. Of course we hope for the higher draft pick but if the team shared our mentality to the point of throwing games I would be disgusted...

Is that hypocritical?

And yes the picks are very nice.

Of the 18 games left, only 4 are against teams lower than us in the standings (NYI, Tampa). The other 2 are against Ottawa, but I see them as a better team with Leclaire.

The other 14 games are very losable, as we play top teams, and teams fighting to get into the playoffs.

If everything goes right, we could go 2-16 or 3-15 down the stretch.

Leclaire won't be with Ott this year (injury, out till next season basically).

Apparently I can't quote now, but obviously directed for TML4ever.

If we accomplished anything today, it was helping out the tank.

Toskala was a big part of our recent drive, sitting him down and bringing in an AHL goalie was the best move of the day.

As stated before, getting rid of Moore and Antropov destoys two lines chemistry aswell.

Bring on Darth Gerber, lets lose us some games

I honestly don't see how acquiring Gerber helps with the tank...it does the exact opposite.
Could we not have let Cujo play in order to lose games, make the fans happy to see him, and also lift Cujo's numbers this season?
Gerber is underrated, he's played decent this season. Imo, Gerber is gonna be lights out for us winning many games...he's shown he can be great in the recent past, he'll want to show everyone he can still play expecially since he was put on waivers, and now he's playing for Sen's rivals.
We should be putting Cujo as starter or split the #1 between Cujo and Pogge.

I don't know why anyone thinks starting Gerber will helping "the tank". Gerber is a good goalie. He was clearly not the problem in Ottawa, much like Emery. This is a guy who has never posted below a .906 until this season (and still might yet match it given that he's only played 14 games).

The one issue with that is you don't wanna kill Pogge's confidence by getting killed in half the remainigng games as he may never get it back, look what's happening to Carey Price in Montreal. When goalies lose their mental prowess their cooked...look at Tommy Salo after he let in that goal in the Olympics. Cujo and Greber will split the games and though the Leafs D is not depleted much without Kaberle we still give up a ton of goals and right now at forward we have very little offence with the two deals today. I see us winning three games max out of the last 18

Not with our D (230 GA,highest in the NHL)and lack of offence

Bottom 5, considering quite a few lower teams have alot of games against each other where someone will be taking two points.
