He also really wanted Breezy before he was put on waivers.

I'm struggling with this. The only name I can come up with is Darcy Wakaluk.

To acquire or deal Wakaluk- come on there must have been a proposal for one or the other?

I think some involving Jovanvovski, if I'm not mistaken. Rangers fans may have even wanted Morris, only to have me balk.

I can't remember three years ago, OR fifteen minutes ago.

Is this a potentially racially driven trend I'm noticing?

Is Colton Yellow Horn a first nations(or whatever the hell you candandians call natives)? Anyone, I have made proposals involving Tootoo, I believe, so that kind of takes care of that.

The more I think about this deal, the more I realize just how great a move it was by Maloney to grab that pick in 2011.

It will be 2 years time when the Cap is going to go down HARD. They are already talking a $10 Million dollar downturn.

That is going to kill a number of teams that signed expensive long-term deals. These teams are going to be forced to dump players with a high cap hit / low actual salary for draft picks/prospects.

In terms of value and what we might be able to parlay this asset into, this pick could be the single most valuable asset we acquired on Deadline Day.

Mind you, he couldn't have acquired Philly's 2009 or 2010 pick as they didn't have a second in either of those years.

I suppose it could have been a telling display of GMDM's prescience........... or he took the first second rounder he could get..

As a Flyer fan, I was scratching my head at why we added a 2nd rd pick but realized that to activate Briere, who was out all year, we had to shed the 400k diff. in salary between Upshall and Carcillo.

This was necessary because the Flyers otherwise couldnt fill out a full roster for the rest of the year. Then next year Upshall will comand 1.5 to 2 mil, and Carcillo still 850k. Our GM has us cap strapped for the next few years and we have no goalie under contract for next year. So, in the cap NHL ear, a team that accepts salary in a trade gets over compensated.

You guys Im sure already love Upshall, good player and good guy. Im liking Carcillo, should knock some teeth out for us.

Hope that helped.

I'm a huge Carcillo fan, but I can't say that we didn't get (more than?) fair value. I've always liked Upshall, so I guess that helps. This might be one of those trades that helps both teams and everyone walks away happy.

I think you are right. I love Carcillo too, but the Coyotes got good value in return with either the 2nd or Upshall. The rub was, as has been pointed out, Upshall's contract relative to the Flyers cap situation. In the end, the Coyotes got the return they did by offering a good player and cap relief.

Each and every day, the fact that the Yotes got rid of Carcillo makes me happier. He is only one or two stupid moves away from being the next Avery (and I'm talking about the pre-anger management avery who had no control, not the current one who is actually helping his team ON THE ICE)

Upshall is going to be awesome for us and I hope we sign him for a while.
