Jagr was a big part of the offense, as the best offensive players on a team usually is. Renney should make no apologies for that. I don't see many here calling for Bowman to give his Cup rings back because Lemieux carried the offense.
There was a hell of a lot more to the Penguins than just Lemieux.
And I'm not saying Renney should be "apogizing" for Jagr's year. My point is simply that Renney has not been able to run an offense aside from when Jagr totally took over. Tortorella is CLEARLY having a much easier time running this offense.
Then why didn't Jagr put up those numbers his next two seasons? And why couldn't Renney make anyone else score?
Shoulder surgery. I am also sure he aggravated the injury when he fell on that left elbow. That is hardly Renney's fault.
Bottom line: Renney could not afford to play uptempo offense with "after Jagr-Starka-Avery-Shanny" personnel. Torts has always had a firepower upfront. I am sure Torts knows that Rangers offense got what it deserves in terms of ranking, unlike many posters here...
