As a Coyotes fan I should probably be somewhat offended, but I thought this was funny.

If Montoya shows he can play, I'd much rather throw him out there than Valiquette.

Montoya came back to earth.

Surrendered 6 goals on 32 shots for a 81.2% save percentage in a 6-1 loss to the Kings.

Hes not gonna be a Lundqvist and possibly not even a decent goaltender. We should just forget that draft ever happened. I really like Sjostrom also, if we resign him i think hes a key player to have on your team. Great penalty killer and decent offensive talent for a 3rd/4th liner

That's the key point here, I think, that a lot of people overlook: Sjostrom might not be a flashy offensive dynamo, but the guy contributes a lot to our team and is a legitimate NHL player.

Exactly, just because the guy doesnt put up huge numbers doesnt mean he isnt a key to this team. The guy does all of the dirty work down low and is one of the best pkers in the entire league.

On Montoya though I think he will eventually become a pretty respectable goalie in the NHL.

USA Hockey announced today that Coyotes goaltender Al Montoya will represent Team USA at the 2009 IIHF World Championship in Switzerland, April 24 to May 10.

Montoya, 24, appeared in five games for the Coyotes this season, posting a record of 3-1-0 with a 2.08 goals against average (GAA), a .925 save percentage (SV%) and one shutout. On April 1, 2009, Montoya became the first goalie in Coyotes/Jets franchise history to record a shutout in his NHL debut when he stopped all 23 shots he faced in a 3-0 win at Colorado.

I would be happy if Montoya made it. It would be yet another quality American goalie and I think it was a simple matter of him not being challenged and getting bored playing so long in the AHL.
