Jason Blake vs Jeff Finger

If Bryan Burke could only keep 1, which of these players do you prefer the Leafs keep?

(Consider future performance, contract, team needs, potential replacements, potential trades, etc.)

Blake - 3 more years @ 4.0M per year, 35 yrs old
Finger - 3 more years @ 3.5M per year, 29 yrs old

Blake, showing no signs of slowing down yet. Next year he should be similar to this year and he is a rolemodel on the team.

I'd rather have 1-2 years of 4 million wasted than 3 years of 3.5.

Finger sucks ass. He has no chance of living up to his 3.5 million.

Blake and Finger both have 3 years left on their contract.

I choose Finger mainly because I think he can still be valuable as a bottom pairing guy. While Blake needs to be in the top six to be effective IMO.

Also, based on reports and my perception it appears that I'd rather have a guy like Finger in the locker room with a young team than a guy like Blake.

This is just who I'd rather have, if we are talking about value or who will live up to their contract, I would choose Blake.

Blake,

There are still a lot of guys older than Blake playing at a 'fairly' high level. I think Blake is going to be a good player for us until his contract expires.

I'd love to have back the Finger signing and use that money on Gilroy.

Blake easily. He is worth his contract this year and almost certainly next year. Finger will never earn what he was signed for as his talent levl was misjudged I think.

You misread my post, I understand they both have 3 years left. Finger won't be worth his contract for any of those years, while Blake seems to be getting better and should be able to maintain a decent pace into next year. Thus only his last 2 years should he be not worth the $4 million (again barring any 1 year dropoff)

Finger. Blake hurts the tank and might actually be able to get a return, Finger won't. Plus, we have guys in the AHL who are NHL ready that are forwards. One of them can take Blakes spot and it would help the rebuild a little bit.

Blake's been much more productive, so I'd probably chose him. Finger hasn't done all that much since coming, and isn't worth the 3.5 mil he's making. Would much rather have another defencman taking fingers spot than a forward taking Blake's.

Finger.

He helps the tank whereas Blake simply is...ugh, words can not describe my anger for him.

If we were contending, I'd probably choose Blake though

Finger no question at all ..

Over 100 hits and 100 blocked shots on the season and a real warrior on the ice..

Blake's rebound season mainly the credit of Dominic Moore saved himself a buyout at seasons end.

Leafs leading scorer, or a slow 3rd. pairing defender?

Leafs want a fast attack team, and have one of the fastest college players coming in, one of the fastest AHL players coming in, Mitchell who won the fastest skaing contest and Blake has great wheels?

Not sure I see a fit ...

How is this even a question?

Blake is an impact forward in this league, and easily our best forward this year.

Meanwhile, Finger is struggling to hold onto the #6 slot on this defense corps - and that's only after we dumped the superior Colaiacovo to make room for him.

Blake's a 1st line forward making $4 mil, Finger's a bottom pair defenseman making $3.5 mil.

Hold on. Last year Blake didn't earn his contract, people were ready to Fedex him out of town. Now he's playing great.

This year Finger isn't earning his contract, people are ready to ship him out as well. Do you think he'll earn it next year?

Blake was a good player in this league for many years before he came to Toronto (and got a serious cancer scare coincidentally coinciding with his first off-year in years).

Finger has never shown that he's even a legit NHL defenseman.

I actually like finger. He gets a lot of undue grief.
