Can we please change the title of this thread? I don't need to get the Clash inextricably lodged in my head every time I read this board. Please?

If he does he'll be in trouble but if he doesn't it could be double. So you should probably let him know, should the thread title stay or should it go?

Sure looks good. I will assume a few things...

1. Maloney has traded Lisin and Dawes (and maybe Lindstrom) for Pavalec.
2. Maloney has paid Klee handsomely so the team can meet the cap floor.
3. The new owners are fine with just one more season of going for a high draft pick.

paajarvi eh?

i see more of a need for cowan or schenn to a lesser extent, not saying it would be a bad pick

MSP won't play in the NHL next season, he signed on for another year with Timra earlier.

I sure hope not. Klee is a bottom pairing defenseman, and Kalinin plain sucks. Re-sign McGrattan, without dumping Fedoruk? No thanks. Where's Tikhonov? Lisin? Lindstrom? Dawes?

Doan/Turris/Mueller
Boedker/Lombardi/Upshall
Lisin/Hanzal/Tikhonov (Hanzal & Tiki can help offset Lisin's defensive shortcomings)
Prust/Winnik/Prucha (energy line to forecheck hard)

Lindstrom

Dawes/Rhino are out I guess...might as well commit to the full youth movement.

The onus is going to be on defense, as we have to reduce our overall GAA from approx 3.03 where it is now to 2.60 (thats what we'll need to make a serious playoff run, considering our offensive output should increse to around 2.60)

Given that fact, I'm a realist to know our current "D" corps won't be able to get us there...as much as I like Michalek, he's at best a #4 d-man. Sauer at best is a #3 d-man and they are our two best defenders...so we're running around with a 3/4 4/5 4/5, that's not going to cut it. Is Yandle improving yes, he made huge strides this year and shold be able to up his defensive game next year to compete for the 3/4 position, but that still leaves us with a glaring hole in the 1/2 spot. No offense to Klee, but he was a cast-off waiver wire pick up and he's arguably been our 2nd best defender behind Sauer.

Knowing this, unless we can pick up Hedman, our "D" looks like its 3-4 years away which should be the time we are hitting on all cylinders offensively...which is great, but its 3-4 yrs away, and we desperately need to make the playoffs.

FA #2 legit "D" man/Sauer
Jovo/Michalek
Yandle/Klee
Ahnelov

Interesting opinion. I actually think Michalek is a better all-around defenseman than Sauer. Michalek passes, shoots and blocks shots better than Sauer. I tend to think of Michalek as a good #3 that teases us with #2 ability at times and Sauer as a good #4.

Mueller-Turris-Doan
Boedker-Lombardi- OPEN
Tikhonov-Hanzal-Winnik
Prust-OPEN-Fedoruk
OPEN

Lisin, Porter, Maclean, kolarik, free agent battle for open spots.

Jovanovski-OPEN
Sauer-Michalek
Yandle-OPEN
Hale

Free agent to handle open spots. But I would prefer us to sign Chelios as the 7th d-man and somehow get Hale off the team. Can't think of a better mentor for Yandle. I know some people here would get angry about the average age going up but it makes sense to have one of the best american defenseman of all time mentoring the american Yandle.

He's from Winnipeg isn't he? I think it's a western canadian thing. Nash and I think Reinprecht pronounced it that way too.

This isn't the NFL. You can't simply cut Fedoruk. His contract is garanteed. He's getting paid one way or another. The only way we can get out of paying him is to convince someone else to. Good luck with that. Really our only hope is to stick him in a bigger trade, effectively forcing another team to take him in order to get another asset of ours that they want. Either that or FedEx Brian Burke a bottle of twenty year old scotch, track the shipment, call him an hour and a half after he signs for it and see if he has any interest in taking Fedoruk and Hale off of our hands, because they are so "tough".

My favorite part is that Turris has two good games and goes from total bust to first line center. The ignore feature should work on quotes, as well. Someone must suggeest this to the powers that be.

We should also try to get Bobby Orr come out of retirement while we're at it.
