This thread is for all the times i read how everyone hated to lose UFA's for nothing.
In the new NHL this is the norm. Teams that are in the hunt for, or are in the playoff's at the deadline keep their UFA's and sometimes acquire more!! only to lose them in the offseason.
It's not as bad as it seems if you are looking at it in the old NHL perspective. But in the New NHL, you let a 35 year old UFA go in the summer and then you can pick up a young 27 year old UFA with the cap space that is opened up.
As we get further into the collective agreement this way of life is getting more and more visable. The age of UFA's has lowered significantly and the number and quality of UFA'a available in the off season is getting better and better.
Just wait till the teams with rediculous contracts have to dump salary in the next few years. Especially 2 seasons from now when the GM's are predicting a much lowered cap.
I'm glad that we are jam packed with young talent working their way up the ladder for the Habs. The future looks bright with the young players coming down the pipe. These riches will be huge this off season and the next one.
my opinion is that the crop that is being cultivated now has everything we need to fill out the team long term. and could be better than the last crop minus goaltending prospects as the next ones are not Price and Halak for sure.
