Haha, that was very unexpected. Summary of Leaf board reactions:

"Is that.. Stempniak?"
"Stempniak, our new heavyweight "
"Well, he lost, but good on him"

Stempniak's post-game: http://mapleleafs.nhl.tv/team/consol...id=-5&id=36128

He says that he thinks the hit from behind was accidental, and Gervais apologized for it. And he says that his first few years in St. Louis, the older guys told him that he has to stick up for himself.

Accidental? Gervais purposely shoved him into the boards. Stempy is being a little too nice.

Yeah, I was watching the game and I've seen the replay a few times. I think Stemp just doesn't want to become a media whiner, and is just satisfied with the win, though I think saying it was accidental was going a bit far. He could have just talked about how it's a fast game and maybe it was just a reaction play or something. I mean, the reporter specifically asked him if it was representative of the lack of respect in the game, and I guess being a little too nice was easier and less controversial than discussing that topic.

Good job for sticking up for himself.

He also had a goal tonight. An assist away from the Gordie Howe hat trick. Wouldn't that have been a sight?

I'm glad to hear that Stempy is willing to stick up for himself and his teammates.

Stempniak was my favorite Blue while he was here, and I always look at the Toronto box score to see how he is doing.
I talked with him on a couple different occasions and he's a good player and an even better guy. I wish him nothing less than continued success and a long NHL career (as long as he's not playing The Blues).
I like that he credited his St. Louis teamates, he's a classy guy.
