Zherdev said something to Torts in the first intermission.
I doubt he's going to get into it with the media, though.

You are ridiculous. How old are you? If Zherdev can't take getting criticized by his BOSS, he's way to immature to be relied upon.

Good thing you're the only one who's being touchy, and that Z man will be fine and get over it.

Maybe Torts feels that Zherdev can be a special player but if he drags ass out there he needs to be taught a lesson.

There might be a reason for it that we don't know about.

What if he says he got slightly injured? This ranting will look quite silly actually.

If he got benched, just maybe Zherdev is mature enough to handle it and will have no problem playing next game?

You just assume that this thing we not know about for sure will end up with Zherdev quitting the team.

He has been our best forward, especially recently.
Gomez' 9 points in 6 games are better and he has doubled his production for the 2nd half of the season. Gomez > Zherdev.

yeah gomez really turned it on after a putrid stretch before that.
maybe he plays like he actually earned the money he gets for the last games and hopefully playoffs.

I don't think it's baseless. if it were about the turnover, why give him another shift.

what is a base, if that isn't one?

This is ridiculous. For all we know, the guy wrenched his back or something. Nothing like stirring controversy when you know absolutely zero details. Now some tool like Eklund grabs this and puts it out there. Good job...

Just speculation.
The fact that he was benched from the opening face off of the 2nd seems like more than a coincidence.
Even if Torts was just unhappy with his play in the 1st, it wouldn't warrant 40 minutes of benching.
He isn't going to get that crazy, at least not yet.
They had a talk in the locker room and Zherdev didn't like what he said, that's what I think.

He's getting points, I'll give him that, but he's still taking tons of pointless shots. Just because it resulted in a goal once tonight doesn't change the fact that most of the time, his shots do not.

He still hasn't stopped turning the puck over at inopportune times. He still hasn't stopped making the wrong play and the wrong decision all the time. He was awful against Carolina.

Tonight, he was better than usual, but it was Avery and Callahan that were really driving that line the majority of the night. Whenever that line was making stuff happen, it was usually them, not Gomez, that were the catalysts.

Of the three, his effort was the least noticeable and the least important.

I'm not going to second-guess Torts on anything right now. The whole team has to pull together like a tractor if they're going to make it. I wish Zherdev had made it back into the good graces of the coach tonight and re-appeared in the third, only because we could use a happy, non-sourpuss Zherdev down the stretch.
Myself, I'll stick with Tortorella's decision, whatever the root cause.

Man, ain't that the truth.

Looks like Gomer had a pretty good game tonight. Seems he's been playing well under Torts.

Now if Torts can get Dru untracked, we might just have something.

show me a player with more than let's say 10 shots where most of them resulted in a goal?

Torts with no comment on Z.

Says it stays in the room.

Something happened between periods.

The above poster was right.

A base is actually talking to a player. A base is seeing or hearing something that leads you to believe there's a problem. A base is having the coach say he's unhappy with the guy's play. A base is not just throwing crap against the wall and seeing if it sticks so you can can say "I told you so" after the fact. If I came on here and said I saw player X cheating on his wife at the bar I go to, they'd take my post down and warn me because there is no basis to my statement, it's heresay. It's no better to fuel rumor that the coach and the star player are feuding when, I'm assuming you weren't even in Tennessee, and did not see or hear anything first hand to draw that conclusion other than "he was playing in the first, he wasn't playing after, he must have done something in between periods."

He's not going to say what went on in the locker room.
Not surprising.
