Quotes and Notes

“I can’t explain it,” Lehtonen said after making 35 saves in a 3-0 win at Colorado on Tuesday night. “It isn’t anything technical. I just feel comfortable, and the team in front of me has been comfortable with me.”

“When you’re getting great goaltending, it makes the rest of the game a little easier,” coach John Anderson said.

Dwayne Roloson made his 22nd consecutive start for Edmonton, and figures to continue as the team’s workhorse goaltender down the stretch. In six career appearances against Atlanta, he is 4-0-0 with a tie and a 2.36 goals-against average.

They’ve won three straight against the Thrashers, whose last victory at Rexall Place was a 3-1 win on Oct. 25, 2000.

The Thrashers have held the opposition scoreless in 15 power-play chances over the last four games.

Kovalchuk has ramped up his production lately, totaling 15 goals and 13 assists in his last 14 games - easily the most points in the NHL over that span.

actually a few updates per sports net.

Ethan Moreau is back.
Sheldon Souray is out with a "Lower Body" injury. Theo Peckham will take his spot.

http://www.oilersnation.com/2009/03/gdb-68/ has the lineup updates for the oilers..

Souray's playing

Kotalik-Horcoff-Hemsky
Nilsson-Gagner-Pouliot
O'Sullivan-Cogliano-Pisani
Moreau-Brodziak-Penner

Souray-Staios
Gilbert-Grebeshkov
Smid-Strudwick

Roloson seems to be our only goalie so he'll most likely be in the pipes again

For once, I actually want the tank to stay in park, while the Thrashers win another game. Beating Edmonton would be glorious.

I'm not gonna bother making a prediction, but I think Kovalchuk (duh), Little and Enstrom get points.

Well, Hedberg is in net tonight. I'm almost scared, but let's see how this new D plays in front of a sieve.

They've been playing fine in front of another sieve, so it's nothing new.

what bull. Why take out the hot goalie for a bad backup?

This team must want to tank on purpose now.

Correction: Hot defense. Kari hasn't had to make any difficult saves.

Why should the team play him constantly anyways? That's completely stupid to do with a goalie with major injury problems.

35/35 isnt real hot defense.

Cause now were going to get blown out tonight. We just gave free points to Edmonton to help them make the playoffs.

Let's just wait and see. I'm trying to be optimistic, and I suppose Kari could use a rest. He's been phenomenal as of late, and everyone can see that, considering he's got two shutouts in three games.

Perhaps Moose can pick up where Kari left off.

35 shots that weren't really that great at all. The defense has done its job very well, and that's why Lehtonen looks so "good" lately.

He's still a complete sieve.

Didn't expect Moose to start tonight (if that is indeed true), particualrly after 2 shutouts in 3 games... thought the rotation would be saved for the upcoming back-to-back on Mon/Tuesday?

Then again, might as well let Moose strech his legs, maybe Kari is getting a bit fatigued.

ASF, you need to letup on Moose a bit, he isn't as bad as you dramaticize... !

Stats don't lie:

Lehtonen: 3GAA .912 SV
Hedberg: 3.61GAA .884 SV

If you're going to throw words around, it's helpful to know what words mean. That lower GAA for Lehtonen is a direct result of better play, more confidence, better conditioning, and a better defense. The fact that Moose has let in almost 2/3 more goals per game is alarming, but we really should find out how well he plays behind a better defense. We;ve got the better D, now let's see Moose do the rest.

Moose had gotten plenty of his starts in the first half of hte season when the team was really in the gutter..in terms of terrible and inconsistant defensive support. He had his shares of gaffes, but the support in front of him was miserable...... not surprised to see inflated GAA when the team was giving up like 3-5 goals a game every game.

From all indications I've read, Anssi won't be in the lineup..... Tough to sneak him in the game when the other defensive pairings have been playing so effectively as of late.

Still haven't quite figured out how the D-core has been so effective after the trade deadline, since Havelid left. Havelid being this teams clear #1 gone, but now the defense is better?

Maybe making the whole squad a bit younger helped things, and perhaps it plays more to JA's system? The results don't lie, without Havelid the team seems so much better (so far)....

i vote that every time lux starts talking about lehtonen we all just let it go because lately every freakin thread is turning into some of us defending lehtonen and lux saying he's a sieve all the time and its getting really damn old.

Yeah, but it's a full moon and digits of the date adds up to 24 (ie. 03/12/09 = 3+12+09 = 24). I think they're 12-5 when the moon is full and the date adds up to a number divisible by 3.

I am all for it as long as ASF can lay off how Lehtonen is the best thing ever.

Lux, we know you think Lehtonen sucks. You do not have to tell us in every thread

Let's hope for another solid effort and 2 points. Keep it going.

I dont think Lehtonen is the best thing ever and i don't say it in every thread.

I say Lehtonen is a top 10 goalie when he has a defense in front of him and doesn't have to make 9000 saves a night.

I only post about Lehtonen in Lehtonen threads.
