I think Sonne has moved to the top of the rest, with his breakout season. His game is similar to Oshie's in its versatility, energy, and physicality (he seems on his way to becoming a poor man's Oshie). It's tough to put him ahead of Cole. But, it takes defencemen longer to mature, so it's hard to tell. Cole may very well be a #1 type D-man (certainly a good shot for first pairing). Allen may well end up a franchise goalie. But it takes even longer for goalies to come into their own, and the bust potential is greater due to the extreme mental aspect required by that position. So, at least at this point, I give an ever-so-slight edge to Sonne over Cole (realizing that Cole could pass him in a year or two).
Sonne for me, every time I watch him he reminds me of Mike Richards. If he even come closes to that I would be stoked. Cole was his true competition,IMO, I really like what I have seen from him this year. Its so hard to pick one blue prospect over another I want all of them to pan out.
Yep, this is definitely where the poll starts to become interesting. There's 3 or 4 guys I could go with here but I ended up going with Cole. I see Cole as a eventual 2nd pairing d-man.
I think Cole might be a #3 defenceman, on The Blues because of EJ and Pietrangelo. But EJ and Pietrangelo might be split into two 1A/1B pairings, and Cole might eventually play with Pietrangelo on the first pairing and EJ with Junland or Kristoffer Berglund or Colaiacovo on a second (but equal) "first" pairing, much like Pronger and MacInnis were separated.
Yes, Sonne is having a fantastic season. He's also 19 years old [20 in May] and in his 4th season in juniors. This isn't like Evander Kane or Brayden Schenn putting up big numbers as a draft-eligible 17-year old. I can rattle off a long list of players who put up dominant numbers in juniors in their final season as a 19-20 year old player, and didn't do the same in the NHL. Ian Laperriere was 41-72-113 in the OHL; it didn't change the fact that his upside was nothing more than a 3rd-line guy.
If every guy in our system hits their upside, Sonne doesn't crack our top-10.
I went with Bishop, other choice would have been Cole.
He is in the system, playing for Peoria now backing up Mason.
If the plans hold true we could have our 10 yr goalie, that would be amazing that we finally have a goalie who can be counted on and carry the team. Being from the STL doesnt hurt.
