Do we have to have the green "News reports" part? It just makes the title unwieldy.

Looks like Varlamov & Neuvirth are swapping places.

Bad news for the Bears given today's game against Bridgeport but I'm guessing he'll start one of the back-to-backs (likely tomorrow).

The way Semin is going, he could realistically finish top 10 in scoring despite playing 20 less games than the rest of the field.

That's some Mario Lemieux ****.

yikes.
at least let him get his game back in his normal position.
Varlamov/Neuvirth should be able to handle the backup duties for now.

Interesting Q&A with Pothier goes into some of the medical side that's led to his quick turnaround.

they had to bring him up now, IIRC. There is a limited number of games you are allowed to play on a conditioning stint.

Wow, what a terrific story regarding Pothier! That doctor rules. Seems like mostly they just look at the most obvious answer and stick to it and that one went all "House" on him or something. Very cool.

I sure hope he plays well. Disney stuff right there.

A couple things I wonder...

How are they fitting Pothier under the salary cap? I thought they had no room...

How many games has Varlamov played since coming back from injury? How well has he played?

We have room for Pothier because Clark's on LTIR (and, I guess, Johnny as well if only to help offset a bit of Neuvirth/Varlamov's cap hit).

Yes, Clark and Johnson are both on LTIR and yes, there is room for Pothier within the cap rules due to the LTIR exceptions.

Now the question is what they are going to do with Alzner. It looks like they don't think he's ready. I doubt they leave him in Hershey until playoffs... going from the AHL to NHL playoffs is quite a change. So either he gets called up for a few games before then or he stays in Hershey for the playoffs.

Simply put. As has been noted several times, there is no room under the cap for Alzner on the Caps once Pothier is taken off of LTIR based on the reported cap hit with his performance bonuses included. There is no cap restriction in the playoffs. At this time, I don't believe Pothier has officially been taken off LTIR although from all reports that could happen as soon as Monday before the Atlanta game. If Pothier is added to the Caps D rotation that means 7 d-men plus Fedorov on the active Caps roster.

Didn't they already have 7? Or did I miss a player move? I thought we had Green, Morrisonn, Poti, Schultz, Jurcina, Erskine, Kronwall, and now Pothier. Are we not counting Poti or someone because of a recent injury, or did one of our guys get sent down recently?

it didn't hurt to pick him up, it's an extra 87K of salary.

if guys go down with an injury, he could come in and play top 4 if needed.

i think it was a valuable move.
