I wonder what Perry Pearn is thinking.

Power play is 8-for-41 under torts...just under 20 percent

That's what I love about Torts. He rewards those who deserve it. Those who never stop giving 100%.

Huge, huge win but we gotta keep it up now for a few games. Build on it with a solid effort in Montreal on Tuesday. Great to see Avery net a couple, we can use all the offense we can get but I'm especially glad to see him doing well now that he's finally back. Great games from Hank and the PK as always. The guide on Time Warner said Boston/Pitt was on the NHL Network but they were showing repeat of Calgary/Toronto from last night..

Big win and a great performance by Lundqvist. Actually I thought he was our best player but there's no doubt that Avery was a key player in this one too. Sean has been very good since he's returned and I wonder if some out here who didn't want him back are having some second thoughts. The Rangers are playing with a lot more edge. Anyway there were no passengers today--everybody played well--a lot fewer mental errors than yesterday. I liked Girardi sticking up for Zherdev as well. I guess though we're about to see instigator and misconduct penalties from now on. That's fine if it's just not this one time thing.

I have already said that the rangers are much better off right now with Avery and Torts than they were at any other point this season.

But, that doesn't mean I can ignore the same glaring mistakes this team continues to make under two coaches, win or lose.

Last night, I watched another team that will remain nameless, and it made me jealous of how fundamentally sound they are from top to bottom. And even my wife said "Why don't the rangers play like that?". pretty telling question, if you ask me.

The rangers have a bunch of risk takers. It may make the game interesting but as a fan it is excruciating.

For me to be "happy" like I was in say 1992 or 1996 or 2006, I would need the following guys off this team:

1) Roszival
2) Redden
3) Drury

Get those three off this team and replace them with young, cheap and inexperienced prospects, and I would be totally happy.

I was opposed to Avery coming back and I was wrong. Plain and simple.

The way he is playing is just amazing to watch. Virtually every shift he does something to either create an opportunity or rattle the other side. I don't get nervous when he has the puck. That is the difference between him and many of his still too tentative team mates for me.

A solid game for Cally, Dubi and Big A. Your always hearing their names.

There is no goalie on earth I'd rather have going into the playoffs than Hank.

On the down side, too many of the teams better players are still not making enough of an impact. Dru, Naslund and Rozy being the most conspicuous. Too many missed opportunities from our better players.

Even if they suck? And we are a worse team for having dealt those 3?

POTG Thread Against Philly 3/15/09

Easily Avery for me, with Lundqvist a second. Is Avery our solution on the PP? I know it's only one game, but the dude is about 8 inches shorter than Voros, and about 40 pounds lighter, and did everything Voros should've done the whole season down by the net.

Easily Avery's best performance so far this year, and one of the best all-around Ranger performances I'd say (surely aided by Philly's inability to stay out of the box).

Good win.

He also has 25x better hands than Voros. Too bad he wasn't a Ranger fan as a kid, that would complete the package.

But yeah:

Avery, Henrik, Morris for me.

Morris has a cannon, but it seems that it takes him 5 minutes to shoot the puck.

Avery is the best agitator I've ever seen, and I'm old enough to have seen a few. He's going to take some penalties, that's the nature of his business. I love that he makes contact with the other teams goalie on a regular basis. They aren't going to call it every time. It sucks when they do, but it plants the seed that no other team can tolerate. Messing with the goalie is like an unwritten rule in the game and teams will certainly seek to make you "pay the price" for doing it. Well, i've never seen a player as willing to pay that price as Sean Avery is. He just gets beat on game after game after game, and he justs keeps coming back for more. He dominated in every way he possibly could today. Short of beating Richards ass at center ice and playing net and getting a shutout, I don't know what else you could ask of this kid. He drove the Flyers to distraction all afternoon. The other thing about him that I think is seriously underrated, is that the media can't help but cover him. They can't get enough of him. Well, there are only so many cameras covering the game. The player focus cam: on Avery. The commercials advertising today's game: Avery. The post game interview: haven't seen it, but I bet it's focused on Avery. He keeps the media hawks busy and lets more camera shy players concentrate on hockey.

Voros was always Hollweg's replacement for me. Even tho that great start of his had me fooled for a bit.
