Jones: Out for a week, Syvret called up

Per Flyers website.

Jones has a "lower body injury," but shouldn't be out long.

Quote:
Defenseman Randy Jones left yesterday's loss in New York with a lower body injury, and said today that he expects to be out of the lineup for about a week.

"It is still pretty tender today. I'm still getting treatment, but it is still pretty sore," said Jones. "I am getting, by but it's not like it's life or death, that's for sure."

In the meantime, the Flyers have recalled defenseman Danny Syvret from the Phantoms. Syvret is the second highest scorer among blueliners in the AHL this season with 48 points in 65 games (11G, 37A). He will wear uniform #26

DETROIT – It was an innocent play, but sometimes that’s all it takes to re-injure a sensitive area.

Flyers defenseman Randy Jones hyperextended his surgically-repaired right hip in Sunday’s loss against the Rangers trying to prevent a puck from reaching the back boards.

“It was my second shift in the third period,” Jones recalled at Joe Louis Arena. “We were killing a penalty and I think it was [Chris] Drury tried to throw [the puck] down low.

“I stuck my leg out behind me and that’s when I felt it. It was a broken two-on-one. I just my leg back to try and block [the puck] and that’s when I extended it.”

Jones is expected to miss 7-10 days but sounded optimistic that, with treatment, it could be less. Defenseman Danny Syvret was recalled from the Phantoms to replace Jones in Tuesday night’s game against the Red Wings.

I knew about his offense this year, but saw him play yesterday and realized that he can also be a mean son of a *****. Hopefully he plays with the same tenacity on the big team. Could be refreshing.

Jones has been playing really well recently.

(yeah, I said it....)

Andrew Alberts (plus-11) and Randy Jones (plus-12) took a combined plus-23 rating into last night's game, the best among the Flyers' defensive pairings. . .

I have very low expectations for Syvret. He's thrown right into the fire too; first game is against the Wings.

Sucks to lose anyone from the top six after Ossi was claimed.

Third Danny on the team. He's been doing not bad offensively on the Phantoms, but I'm not sure what to make of his +/- :/

I don't see this as reason to celebrate but to each their own. Jones plays both special teams units and has been pretty good.

Like CF88 said, Syvret is being thrown right into the fire.

By the way, anyone have the over/under on "lower body injury" being menstrual cramps?

Glad Syvret finally gets his chance. He has been playing well with the Phantoms, so hopefully it can transfer over.

I'd love a shut down d-man. Jones is not that kinda player.

However, Jones does have offensive upside. Gotta give the man some credit.

he's paired with alberts. Putting a ford next to a yugo makes the ford look better but it doesn't make it a porsche.

Jones finally getting some credit on this board. It was ridiculous the amount of people hating on him by his 2nd game back.

Lets get on Briere now instead. = invisible.

Agreed. Although Jones on the PP makes me shudder. Jones is fine when his minutes are limited. He runs into difficulty when he's given more icetime than he should, and that's when you see the really scary stuff.

Okay Syvy -- bring it, kid!

Quoted again for emphasis (or for the reading comprehension challenged)

Alberts was awful last game.

And thats the thing 3rd pairing guys shouldnt be getting 2.75 million

And +/- means nothing when you only play 3rd pairing minutes against 3rd and 4th lines. It means you give up scoring chances to people who cant finish them
