And what has a Sutter coach ever done in the NHL playoffs besides being a first or second round also-ran?

Sure, Duane and Brent won the whole she-bang as bit players with the Fishsticks, but the rest of the clan for all their supposed pedigree hype as players kinda fizzled in the post-season as far as history goes.

Brent, to his credit, parlayed that winning attitude at the junior level. But only that. So far.

Darryl as a Black Hawk captained his squad into the third round, but those were the days of the best-of-three preliminary round, so that hardly qualifies him as a marathon warrior.

The Darryl Sutter Myth is tremendously overblown. One IHL Championship under his belt and almost a decade of NHL playoff wallflower status.

Progressive regular season improvement can only take you so far. The year the San Jose Sharks fired Darryl Sutter was the year most knowledgable hockey pundits predicted the Sharks would contend. Of course we all know how that season unraveled for them.

The holdouts had a little bit to do with the Sharks tanking. Not all of their failure can be pinned on Sutter. Didn't they show improvement in the points practically every year he was in San Jose, until the last?
