i knew going into this game tootoo had his injured finger wrapped and was NOT to fight.
then bradly cheap shots him from behind after yapping at him for tootoo's clean hit on brash.
so good for tootoo fighting him, but that sucks for NSH as tootoo will likely miss another week or two while his finger heals back up to the point he can play. wish he had not fought. he is a little beast!
i can't believe how clueless the announcers are on the local caps feed. when tootoo took off his tape they called it and guessed he may have had a cut.
can these guys not take 5 minutes to read up on the team they are playing? wow. i read about that in under 5 minutes of reading this morning. weak.
good luck making the playoffs NSH fans. always have a soft spot for you guys after forsberg's stint w/u.
Ah well. Leggy or Sully missed Fedorov, who is sneaky to begin with. Both Washington goals were similar, and both were perfect shots/moves. Ellis played a heck of a game. We truly were a different team when Arnott left the game the second time. The downgrade from Arnott to Smithson ruined our even strength offense....
Enoch that was my thought as well. I do see Legwand as our "top line" center right now sure Arnott gets the points but you can't argue with his play shutting down AO all game and still putting pressure on their goalie.
But that huge talent level between Arnott/Legwand and everyone else was on display tonight. If he is out for an extended time we are cooked. It'll be time to hope that Wilson can fill the gap down the middle next year.
I thought we got dominated. It was pretty obvious after the first minute that we were back on our heels big time. The D did a good job getting sticks on pucks and holding on for dear life but that was basically all we were doing all game. Holding on for dear life. Washington forechecked us hard the way we have been doing to teams lately and we couldn't break through for crap. Dumont and arnott were craptastic. Particually Arnott. I hope he is ok but hopefully that hit makes him realize this is crunch time. No more floating around and playing like a pasny. Get your ass in gear. Getting outexecuted and outworked at home at this point in the year is unacceptable.
2-1 losing in overtime I would bet is exactly what most rational people would consider a good game. Especially being without Arnott in the third.
They have an over the top offense we have a very solid defense....... looked like a tight defensive game that we played.
Did they out play our forwards? Yeah, did you expect any different?
Did they out play our defense? No
Did we win the hitting and fighting battle? Yep
Did Legwand win the 5 on 5 battle against O.V.? Yep
I'm not saying we looked like world betters but, dominated....I don't think so.
As far as the flow of play was concerned we got dominated. We did a good job holding on for dear life and getting sticks on shots, blocking shots etc. I thought the D did play well considering Washington's most skilled players were entering the zone with speed over and over all night. But don't kid yourself this game easily could have been 4-1, 5-1. Washington is good I give them alot of credit, but our abilty to move the puck tonight was a joke. Legwand was the only forward that stood out IMO. We better execute and battle harder than we did tonight the rest of the season or we won't make the playoffs.
MacIntyre recalled, which makes me think that they expect Rinne to be out for a few games.
No, MacIntyre was recalled because they want to try to stop this flu from spreading anymore. Pekka was told to stay home today and I doubt he will be at practice tomorrow either. MacIntyre was recalled to backup Ellis and provide a target at practice Wednesday. I expect Thursday morning they will re-evaluate Pekka's readiness and make a decision from there.
I have to agree with some here, I was disappointed with the way we played and I thought we were lucky as hell to get that point. The Caps could have blown us out they had open nets all night. We are looking like the Preds that have trouble scoring again. Other than the opening flurry we really didn't press them too much. Well getting that point was big so maybe we can get it together. Hopefully Arnott is ok we can't afford to lose him right now.
I say dominated. Cap flung some 60+ shots at the net [20 something blocked] compared to our 25 or so? We had complete control of the puck for 50 seconds and then never had it again.
The Caps had Ellis figured out after the first period, they knew they could cruise across and he would go down early, they just kept missing, shooting wide, etc. Now Ellis did play great but I was really hoping it wasnt going to go down to a shoot out.
2 straight 1 goal games, and you guys still think we didnt need to pick up an Antropov. If Arnott is out for any amount of time this could get really ugly. Speaking of Arnott, he's the softest big man we've ever had.
You do have to be happy with Legwand, Tootoo, and Belak. Great showing by those guys.
