Can we limit the search to people with actual qualifications to be NHL head coaches?

Patrick Roy doesn't have more than a few years in junior -- in which he's had some success, but also has had the troubles I don't need to describe -- and if he weren't Patrick Roy, that would make him laughable as a candidate.

In fact, I'm not sure him being Patrick Roy helps.

I just think that what they're doing in Football to be an excellent model. The coach for The Quebec Rouge & Or drafts the players he wants to coach and the excellence of their program shows by the result the Rouge & Or have. The guy can forge himself the type of team with the type of players he thinks will make him win on the field.

Imo it would be a smart management move to hire one of the best goaltenders of all time as your coach when you do have two young star goalies who are uprising. Look at clemmenson, don't get me wrong NJ is a solid team that made him look good, but I'm sure part of it was due to Brodeur's influence on him. He is a solid goalie it's not like his team is stealing him games, it's a team effort.

Hockey is not football and the scouting is not limited to certain geographic areas within NA ONLY. Hockey scouting is all over the place, all over the world.

Coaches in scouting decisions is a recipe for disaster.

Like someone said here, I see him doing something like Brent Sutter did. Waiting for the best offer possible. Brent waited for his son to make it at the next level and Roy will probably do the same, except that his son won't make it. Frederick is 17 and he still has 3 more seasons ahead of him in the QMJHL. Roy won't go in the AHL and he won't become an assistant coach. He didn't accept Guy's proposition in 2006. He didn't accept Nolan's proposition in 2007 to be Di Pietro's coach. When he leaves the Remparts, it'll be because he'll have a good offer on the table, a NHL head coach offer, nothing less.

The Habs will have to draft both his sons before he make his move...

We need a goalie goon and a mini goon !

Marc Bureau or Benoit Brunet should be the coach .................................................. ....

The goalie goon is retiring after this season to concentrate on his music... we could still hire him to sing the National anthem...

This is a very silly comparison.
How can you can compare university football in Quebec to the NHL drafting wise ? This just blows my mind away.

I'm torn. On one end, we'd never win a cup with Roy as coach. On the other hand, I think his tenure would be so incredibly entertaining and full of ridiculous quotes and scandals that I almost want it to happen.

I would prefer if we stay away from former Habs legends as coach though. It doesn't end well ever, and it's a crappy way for their legacies to end.

Patrick would perform exactly like Tremblay did.

We need a coach with experience this time.
