By the gods! I'm quite taken by this videotronic game. It is mighty worthy of any praise heaped upon it.

Only done the am tourney and a couple of legacy fights so far, I am absolutely loving it though. Love the way counter punching is done and the lack of the stupid hazy mode etc, pretty much ready to submit my life to this game for a long time.

Also if there are former button users out there, GG to ya, time to man up and play with the stick

I was quite tickled after finding this out. Long have I waited for the day to finally defeat the dreaded mashers, and that day has finally arrived.

I wish the game was deeper. Legacy mode is stale and boring and hte only thing that saves it is the fighting. I just wish there was more. Otherwise still a fun game, haven't tried online and don't know if I will.

The goods:
-The gameplay is ****ing awesome, so much better than the demo
-The hard difficulty settings are actually difficult (my Legacy Mode on G.O.A.T. started with me losing 3 of my first 4 pro fights, and 5 of my first 7.
-Offline fights are actually pretty realistic
-Somebody made a Billy Mays boxer and he looks great
-Soundtrack is great, with tracks from RZA, Mos Def, K'naan, and more
-Did I mention that the gameplay is awesome?
-Sliders for stuff like... CPU Defensive/Offensive awareness, CPU Punch Output, Speed, Power, Toughness, Ref Foul Awareness, Ref Damage Awareness, etc

The bads:

-Legacy Mode is not very deep... think NHL's BAP mode except with training. Lots of stat tracking and rankings, but really all you need to do is train and fight.
-CAB system is slow and hit-or-miss (some people have made great ones, but it is very difficult to get it right)
-A lot of online players just go in flailing
-No "Swing" camera like they had in Round 3. The "Wide" is the best, IMO

Gameplay gets a 9.7
Overall I'd say a 9.5-ish... the game is so fun that the somewhat shallow Legacy Mode doesn't really matter

Yeah. And in addition to being able to download (and rate) people's created boxers, you can also download their Sliders.

Here's the site where you can browse people's created boxers:

So... why is there no PBP? It's on in my settings menu, but he's not saying anything. All I hear is the trainer yelling random **** at me along with the fight sounds and ambient stuff. Am I not far enough along to warrant a talking head? I'm 2 fights into my pro career.

Once you get on a televised fight, rather than fights in the Training Gym and Windy City gym, you'll get Play By Play. I actually like that you don't have commentary in the amateur and early pro fights. In Round 3's Career Mode, I always turned commentary off until my fighter "made it big", just for realism...... yes, I'm so cool.

Crazy coincidence though. I played as Michael Jackson vs. Foreman yesterday, got destroyed, and literally less than an hour later, the news hit. FNR4 with voodoo features?

I lol'd.

I have quite the matchup I'm Tyson, and I'm fighting tiny Cory Spinks. Hehe. First punch knocked him down, after he got up 3 more punches and he was done.

My only complaint so far is the menu, especially in Legacy and CAB. It shouldn't take 15 seconds of load time to change the boxer's body type.

15 is obviously exaggerating, but I agree, the CAB system takes a while. 3 seconds of freezing every time you change your haircut or anything like that. And speaking of haircuts, there are so few in the game. Kind of annoying. Also, the Body types are too limited. I liked FNR3's system of shaping the body with the grid.

I downloaded someone's Floyd Mayweather Jr. CAB (86 overall rating... could be higher by 1-2 points but whatever) and I'm having a lot of fun taking him online and fighting just like him. Move away, move away, move away, potshot lead right, move away, move away, shoulder roll in the shell along the ropes, counter right, shoulder roll, escape to the left, pop out a body-head hook combo with the left as I leave, move away, move away, move away, move away, counter right, etc... I think the highest punch connect % against me when I use Floyd was 31%, and that was through 4 rounds, after I knocked him out with a perfect overhand right counter.

I'm not even a Floyd fan but it is so much fun re-creating his style in the game.

My only issue is I now have to adjust to not parrying everything when playing multiplayer, this was always my key tactic. It's for the best though, the parrying in round 3 was pretty stupid. Also the knockdown blows lack a sort of epicness.

Makes sense.

Defense is hard (ie I suck at it). I can't ever seem to block appropriately when a guy has me cornered or when toe to toe and trying to move away would just open me up even further. I eat uppercuts like nobody's business. Particularly when I've missed or gotten effectively blocked. I'm playing on Championship level.

I've tried a couple fights doing nothing but jab and move jab and move, some high some low, maybe a straight every now and then. But I don't have enough patience not to unleash the fury (like the one fan shouts) when I smell an opening. Sometimes it works, and other times not so much. Plus the momentum can turn on a dime. I've had more than a few rounds where I'm dominating and floor a guy only to end up on the canvas myself later in the round because I try to go for the kill. I throw too many punches and trying to box for 10+ rounds rarely ends well. I've only won a single 10+ round decision (I jabbed around 800 times). Everything else is KO or be KO'd. The only decision I've lost was during the Amateur 4 round tourney.

The most embarassing moment so far would probably be getting dropped 4-5 times in the regular sparring mini-game and ending up with only a couple hundred points instead of the 20K+ needed to get full points.

Oh and my thumbs hurt.

I don't like the training program. It takes way too long. I've only been good at one of the exercises.
