Well, the Journal seems to sum this all up better than I did:

Quote:
[Dwayne Roloson] and Josh Harding (Minnesota Wild) will man the net under head coach Lindy Ruff (Buffalo Sabres).

Defenceman Tom Gilbert and winger Patrick O’Sullivan are going to play for the U.S., Ales Kotalik and Ales Hemsky will play with the Czech and defenceman Denis Grebeshkov is joining the Russian entry.

Oilers centre Shawn Horcoff was also asked to play for Canada and might have readily accepted had he not had two young children to consider.

Edit: Roloson and Horcoff confirmed: http://oilers.nhl.com/team/app/?serv...ticleid=418159

Looks like Team Finland will be awful this year... I hope they avoid relegation with that 3rd rate loser squad.

You can add Mikko Koivu to the notable not playing list. Apparently he's healing his knee...

Bäckström seems like a lock, according to the reports. Rinne is still awaiting permission from Nashville.

EDIT: Oh, and Antti Miettinen has been confirmed along with Bäckström.

An update for Canada: http://www.google.com/hostednews/can...JJ_pKS1RrfU5YA

It looks like James Neal, Shea Weber, Dan Hamhuis, and Shawn Horcoff are going as well.

OUCH!!!

This is the best they could come up with? Are you kidding me....? Good luck with 5th place finish.

No Bouwmeester, McCabe, Arnott/Dumont......Plus they should have left ATLEAST TWO SPOTS for forwards! [Rick Nash....Ryan Getzlaf, Perry, Crosby potentially]

I'm angry.......

Here's Team Canada:
Dany Heatley - Jason Spezza - Martin St. Louis
Shane Doan - Derek Roy - Steven Stamkos
James Neal - Shawn Horcoff - Scottie Upshall
Matthew Lombardi - Mike Fisher - Colby Armstrong

Shea Weber - Chris Phillips
Drew Doughty - Dan Hamhuis
Luke Schenn - Ian White

Dwayne Roloson
Josh Harding

-->Three/Four Olympic Calibre players....This team sucks.

-->No Bouwmeester, McCabe, Arnott/Dumont [Of Top of my head]

-->Left ONLY ONE spot for forward, defenseman and a goalie which means Nash, Getzlaf, Perry, Iginla or Toews and potentially Crosby.....could be available, but only one will make the team

Interesting approach. I'm pretty sure that isn't the most talented roster Canada can ice, but I guess the brass is going in a differant direction?

Looks pretty damn good to me. Defense could be a little inexperienced, but it has some serious talent at least.

This roster is every bit as good as the one that we last won with. As long as Roly plays well we're clearly the #1 team in the tournament.

How can you say that without any other country naming their roster? Personally, I expect the U.S. and Russia to rival Canada's talent this go around.

1. I count at least five currently. Heatley, Spezza, St. Louis, Doan, Weber.

2. You complain about Olympic caliber players not being there and you bring up McCabe and Dumont as obvious missing players?!? Bouwmeester is obviously worried about getting his money.

3. This is valid. Very surprising to see Upshall, Armstrong, Lombardi, and maybe Fisher on the team this soon, but they're all very capable players for the roles they were selected in.

I am surprised Canada is not leaving much room for additions. That's frivolous, even in the Can system the 3-d line should be scorers.

Because I know of the talent pool of the other countries. Outside of Kovalchuk, no other country will have a bonafide goal scorer like Heatley, who has been known to tear this tournament up. All of Swedens big guns are in the playoffs, Finlands team never looks great on paper or has as much pure talent.

Canada has never really gone the parachute route though. They like their team finalized by the time the tournament starts.

Odd that these guys aren't on the team:
Ribeiro
Horton
Souray
McCabe
Jovanovski
Rivet
Hannan
Turco

But still a fairly good team.
