Sutton or Martinek from the Islanders this summer.

Dunno what for.... deal can include several bodies/prospects/picks from both sides, if necessary.

Jason Smith and Christoph Schubert can be had for cheap from the sens. Alexandre picard may be available in a trade for someone up front as well.

Edmonton has no choice but to trade Gilbert. Got a 1st and a 3rd?

Gilbert would be great, but Dallas wouldn't give up Neal. I have a hard time believing they'd trade any young players or a 1st before at least trying to land someone in free agency.

I would put the following available for the right price

Lee, Smith, Picard - and to a lesser extent Schubert and Bell

bell is worthless, schubert is definitely on the block.
I still think the organization is holding hope for lee, at least until we can have one of karlsson/wiercioch on the roster.

I can understand what you are saying but this guy has more points then Neal, he would be your highest scoring defender and 5th in your over all team scoring. Add to that he is +7 and plays 22 minutes a night.

Thats an impressive stat bar no matter who you are.

Would Bieksa be of interest?

If the Canucks make a run at JBO this summer one of their top six would pretty much have to be traded, on top of losing Ohlund. My guess is Bieksa, having the most trade value outside Edler and no NTC.

first of all, Modano doesn't need to retire yet.

second.. the Leafs have Van Ryn, Kaberle, Kubina, and White available for the right price (albeit a high price). Sens have Bell, Schubert. If the Pens don't resign Gonchar, there is another option.

i'll assume you meant zubov and didnt actually think Modano was a defenseman. Zubov's retirement has more to do with health, and it seems he is about done as an NHL player in that respect.

If it's a high price for leaf's defensemen, I doubt dallas would be that interested, as they dont really have many assets to trade. I feel like they will target cheaper players through trade and possibly sign a UFA.

I'm sure dallas would love redden on re-entry or if he is bought out, but that wont happen until '10-'11.

With the Oilers having to sign Grebeshkov, and will likely have to pony up some decent cash to do it, Gilbert becomes somewhat expendable with Visnovski and Grebs as puck movers and PP guys (along with Souray on the PP).

I'd prefer to keep them all, but it might prove tricky.

I don't really see a good match for a deal between Dallas and the Oilers, unfortunately.

I wouldn't want 5 mil. on the Stars salary cap. My counter offer...
J.Lundqvist and a 3rd for Antropov. UFA for UFA straight up. Antropov is a better player but the fact that Joel's last name is Lundqvist makes him valuable to the Rangers.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind Jason Smith. He was pretty solid back in Edmonton. Also, I think he'd fit well in Tippet's defensive style. Plus he's a veteran he could help out our young defense. What's his cap hit?
