Well, so far tonight we have the overstated "cheapshot to the head...!" thread, and the ever popular, melodramatic "dirty, dirty hit...!" thread.

Can the all-encompassing, uber-alarmist "Dirty, dirty cheapshot!" thread, capping off the evening, be far behind?

I really like how this is Malkin being dirty because it was done with the result already decided. Why is Simmonds still challenging on the play if it's "over"? Just let the Pens skate off those 14 seconds.

There was no elbow. Simmonds head was at the same level as Malkins elbow. Genos elbow never came up.

This calls for at least a 20 game suspension. . he was clearly attempting to injure Simmons , maybe a 30 game. .i don't know.. . . .

Lifetime Suspension?

Didn't see anything that would call that a dirty hit.

I can't believe how many people are citing the amount of time left on the clock.

I've never had a coach who hasn't told me to play to the whistle, and I'm pretty sure Malkin hasn't either, nor would I guess that any other player in the league has.

EXACTLY. I was there, and I don't know what TV showed but they ran Malkin 3 times and got gloves in his face all night. I don't blame him for a preemptive strike.

Why not? So sue Malkin if he was playing untill the end of the game and Simmonds got caught with his head down

Sounds like shuffleboard may be more your speed.

Is there another video floating around somewhere or are most of you playing devil's advocate and trying to be contrary?

It was an elbow to the head. How can any of you not see that?

this is a suspension if this is Chris Pronger.

Malkin should be suspended if we hold everyone to the same standard

If that hit happens in the middle of the second, I promise you 90% of Kings fans don't have a problem with that. NOT a dirty hit. BUT... The Pens dominated us. The game was over. That hit speaks about Malkin's character. He had the puck within reach and decided instead to step into Simmonds. If there's anyone here who thinks the play itself is not a cheap shot, then you don't know jack **** about hockey, it's history, or the unwritten code between players.

I guess so. Looks to me like he sticks his arm out a bit. Not calling for a 5 game suspension or anything like that, just looked dirty to me.

Yes, calling a hit dirty would sure imply that. It looked to me like an intentional elbow. But yes, clearly I should quit watching hockey because I viewed a hit as dirty, great insight.

I even asked if there was another video.

It is pretty hilarious because you make it sound like it wasn't an elbow...then the video is posted.

ha, the elbow is right in Simmonds face....how you can not tell that is what happening is surprising. You can still hit someone with your elbow without having your arm out. If you've played hockey, and thrown an elbow, you know that is how to get away with it.

Simmonds face was low and at the same level as Malkins elbow. Malkins elbow never came up, therefore its a clean hit. Understand yet?

Why are you so pissed!?! his elbow didn't even come up after the hit. .it looked like shoulder to head. .
but honestly. .i didn't see the need for Malkin to take the body that late in the game. .

The "tucked elbow" theory is really taking off here hahaha.....seriously I'm sure some of you have played hockey before and have thrown an elbow...when have you EVER extended your elbow when throwing one? You keep it close to your body so no one sees it....kinda like what is happening here with Malkin.

It shows you Malkin is an assassin, get over it

If Ovechkin threw the same hit it'd be glorified, except by Pens fans and some canadians

It was more unnecessary than illegal.

Malkin saw Simmonds with his head down and decided to level him. Even though Malkin is the the one who threw that hit, Simmonds is partially to blame for having his head down.

I doubt Malkin gets suspended because he isn't a dirty player and he is a superstar. Though it wouldln't surprise me considering it was a shot to the head.

If you take the time to look at this picture (which was already posted), you can see that Simmonds had his head down, going right into Malkin's elbow.
