Meh

Bernier was better offensively in junior. We'll be lucky if he's Bernier, and not Hiesten or Rasmussen.

We went big with Primeau and Rasmussen. I hope we are not trading size for skill again.

Kulikov would have been nice.

But Kulikov does sound a little like Kriukov....so.....

Seriously, think about this lineup:
Vanek-Connolly-Stafford
Gaustad-Briere-Pominville
Mac-Roy-Paille
Ellis-Mair-Kaleta

That's a pretty strong lineup, plus, Grier or Neil could come in and give us some grit in the long term and play on the third line with Roy.

Give me a second-line powerfoward with potential, size, and a nasty streak...and I'm a happy camper.

I understand wanting to get gritty, but can't that be done in round 3?

We chased around Keith Primeau for years and could never get a trade done. Finally, they drafted his brother, who was no Keith.

Perfect pick. Even if he busts, it will remain the smart pick. Impressive that Regier didn't **** it up

Did we chase around an older Kassian for years or something?

Drafting for need and then busting is not a smart pick at all.

Thats what I liked about it.

At best, he's becomes an absolute beast.

Worst case scenario he's a 3rd line banger.

But it's not like the guy hasn't shown he can play offense. He was over a point/game guy last year. He was both a need and a very good player.

That doesn't make sense. To be the perfect pick when all is said and done he will have been better through his carreer then anyone picked after him.

It's a certainty that Schroeder will be in the League before Kassian, play longer and acomplish more.

This was more the anti small reactionary pick. Not Best player available.

In hindsight, yes.

But last I checked, there's no such thing as seeing the future

EDIT: And you're "it's a certainty" comment is a joke.

So Shroeder will accomplish more? By that do people mean he will score more points? If so, probably, yes. But will he hit, forecheck like an animal, drop his gloves, and bring those intangibles that this tiny team so desperately needs? Nope, not a chance. I'll take a few less goals if he makes the Sabres a tough team to play against.

The difference is you won't find any Jordan Schroeder's beyond the first round. You will find your 3rd line grinders throughout the entire draft.

Well, Kassain looks pretty steady on his skates. The overall theme of his fights is that he's the one that throws his opponent down to the ice.

But not 3rd line grinders with scoring ability.

Third line grinder. Second-line power forward. Only time will tell.

Hell, when it comes to power forwards, you never know. The history of the NHL is rife with power forwards who have teamed up with small, skilled centers and become bona-fide 1st liners.

He's got the potential to do that.
