What the hell is going on in Cleveland with the ice at the Quickens arena?

Quote:
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … This evening’s American Hockey League game between the San Antonio Rampage and the Lake Erie Monsters, being played in Cleveland, has been suspended due to unsafe ice conditions at Quicken Loans Arena.

Maybe some of our CBJ fans up there can fill us in.
It was "Pink the Rink" night at the Q to honor breast cancer awareness. The Monsters wore pink jerseys and the game was to be played on Pink Ice. The First period was played, I noticed a few more players falling than normal (The ice is notoriously bad in the Q, it's the one thing that makes me NOT want to see Jackets prospects play there)

Anyway after the first period the Zamboni came out to clear the ice, and behind what would have been the San Antonio defend goal it took up a large section of the Pink dye. I didn't think anything other than "Boy that looks bad" When the player took the ice about 4 San Antonio player skated behind their net and all wiped out all in a row. The goalie went behind the net and wiped out, a Ref came over to see what was happening and wiped out. Apparently something made it really slippery in the Dyed ice to no dye transition.

They sent the teams back to the locker rooms brought the zambonies out and proceeded to essentaially flood the rink in the hopes of burying the dye further under good ice. This only made things worse. After about 45 minutes they changed and started scraping the ice in the hopes of scraping the pink off the ice. So we got to watch zamboni's go around for almost 2 hours (one running out of gas) before they decided to call it with about 2/3rds of the rink still pink.

I took a bunch of co-workers to their first game to add insult to injury. Though everybody got a kick out of the San Antonio player who came back out to sit on the bench and watch the Zambonies and his Gatorade which was a little too amber in color and had a nice big foamy head on it.

Our tickets for tonights game are now good for any remaining home game

I was there as well, what a disaster. I'm all for raising money for cancer, that's great. But please never dye the ice pink again. Wasted night.

Ugh. I'm sorry for you guys.

I wonder if the AHL has an 'ice czar' like the NHL does. Maybe he can get sent to the Q to show them what they're doing wrong.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'BYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYR NE!

I can't believe O'Brien scored an own goal into the empty net!

That makes TWO players to score own-goals into their empty nets on a delayed penalty this year. I can't believe it!

I have an old family recipe for ice that they might want to try: water + cold.

Can any of you Monster fans tell me why Tom Fritsche isn't playing for the Monsters any more?

He was suspended for quite a while Jan/Feb after leaving the bench in a fight. I heard him on the radio promoting "Pink the Rink" but don't really remember seeing him out there. Though you couldn't read the light pink numbers on white jerseys, on pink ice, so I dunno if he played or not.

If this is the NHL non-CBJ thread, then this must be the place to rant against NBC, right?

WTH is going on there? Do they really, really think that if the game doesn't include Pittsburgh, the Rangers, Ovechkin, or Boston then nobody would watch? Seriously, EVERY WEEK it's one of those 4 teams. I'm gonna look it up for accuracy, but seriously? I hate you NBC.

Edit: 2008 NHL ON NBC REGULAR SEASON FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE
(All Games Announced At Least 13 Days Prior)

Sunday, Jan. 20, 12:30 p.m. ET
Boston @ New York Rangers

Sunday, Feb. 3, 2 p.m. ET
New York Rangers @ Montreal

Sunday, Feb. 10, 3:30 p.m. ET
Anaheim @ Detroit or
Philadelphia @ Pittsburgh or
New York Rangers @ Washington

Sunday, Feb. 17, 3:30 p.m. ET
Detroit @ Dallas or
Pittsburgh @ Buffalo or
San Jose @ New York Rangers or
Colorado @ Chicago

Sunday, March 2, 12:30 p.m. ET
Detroit @ Buffalo or
Philadelphia @ New York Rangers or
Atlanta @ Pittsburgh

Sunday, March 9, 12:30 p.m. ET
Pittsburgh @ Washington or
Boston @ New York Rangers or
Nashville @ Detroit

Sunday, March 16, Noon ET
Philadelphia @ Pittsburgh or
Detroit @ Columbus or
Boston @ Washington

Sunday, March 30, 12:30 p.m. ET
New York Rangers @ Pittsburgh or
Nashville @ Detroit or
Boston @ Buffalo

Sunday, April 6, 12:30 p.m. ET
Chicago @ Detroit or
New York Rangers @ New Jersey or
Pittsburgh @ Philadelphia

Now, I just gotta figure out which ones were actually chosen, but you can see by the above that there's definitely a trend.... Pretty much a) only Eastern Time Zone games b)including those big 4 I stated earlier. I HATE YOU NBC

You forgot Philly...

It's pretty bad. They know the ratings though. Obviously, the East Coast is watching more hockey than the rest of the country combined--or so it would seem.

No, Philly only gets included if they're playing Pittsburgh or the Rags, evidently.

Setting aside seeing the same teams every week, I like what NBC is doing with McGuire and Milbury. Kind of creating a Coach's Corner-type vibe.

Good stuff!
