I disagree. What you are seeing is when you have two great players on entry level deals and you are able to put 55 million dollars around them.

Once Kane and Toews are off those deals, their team may look very different. They will likely regret the Campbell contract.

They need to develop players of Kane and Toews caliber to follow them up.

Next year will be a big year for them since it will be the last year with those deals and 12 million to spend from Khabi and Havlat.

Also note, their 5.5 million dollar free agent goalie is not starting for them in the playoffs, which could be problematic.

San Jose is definitely the model IMO. Especially from a Cap standpoint.

I don't think San Jose or Chicago are the best models, I'd say Detroit still is. And it's not that SJ or the Hawks are bad examples, they're just not at Detroit's level of developing players and signing free agent deals.
The Hawks don't really have a goalie of the future, unless Antii Niemi really pans out well for them.

I'm not sure how I feel about Detroit's most recent signings, I'd say they could end up being borderline stupid. Most of their greatness also extends into the pre-cap era when they could simply outspend teams... I don't consider that intelligence or craftiness. They also have the advantage of history to sell players on. That's not something we have. That's not something that San Jose or really Chicago have.

I also think that they are able to do some of those things because they are such a large market. They will spend above the cap every year with the way they are structuring their deals. We can't compare to them in that way, not many teams can.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Hossa.

You will see a different SJ team next season, why?, because they can't win in the playoffs. Organization success is judged on playoff performance not making the playoffs.

Chicago is an original six, that does mean something to veteran players. The cap is a consideration but there's more to it than just money. It's the players the organization chooses, how they are coached and how they are developed. There is a lot more behind NHL success than just spending every cent a team has or how well they manage the cap for their market.

Does NBC really need to switch to the camera hanging from the ceiling just because someone's on the power play?

I just stop paying attention when they do that. Do they really think it's helpful or looks good? I don't mind the camera directly above the goal so much, but the one they use is way too high.

I guess it's the only way to see over those idiots at the Joe who are always standing up and waving at the camera as the play goes by.

And much despised by Blue Jacket fans at the time... I guess Detroit is not that good if Marchant can beat them...lol.

btw, Anaheim now has home ice advantage.

Despised mainly because of (1) one off-the-cuff comment during the lockout and (2) the ridiculousness of Doug thinking he was a first line center.

Todd's good in the faceoff circle, great on PK, provides occassional (and timely) secondary scoring and is a locker room leader. He and his family loved the city of Columbus and were not happy they had to leave. I would have much rather had Todd on the Jackets in the playoffs this year than Michael Peca. And obviously I was thrilled to see him come through today to take away home ice advantage for the Wings.

And now a letter to today's broadcasters:

Dear NBC, the Wings just lost after you felated them for 5 plus periods a game after they barely won Game 1. Maybe its time to recognize that Detroit isn't the only team on the ice. If not, maybe its time to let your contract lapse so that someone who can more fairly broadcast games, whose willing to promote the sport of hockey instead of the same 5 teams can take a crack at it. I'm willing to forgive the glow puck and let Fox have another chance. Couldn't be any worse than what I've seen the last 3 years.

That's what they say, my question is then, why did we only beat him once in the first 3 games of our series against him?

Because we didn't put enough quality shots on net. Too obvious?

Nash is fat? Peca is old? Mason is average? We don't deserve a team? Toronto conspiracy?

No...I just hope Scott Howson is watching this series, Anaheim vs Detroit. The Wings are good but not as good as we made them appear. Goaltending is the difference in the playoffs.

Not emotional. It was a joke from the start. My jokes just don't go anywhere anymore.
