marty's accent is great; it's always "der", not "their"

and parent is wearing the orange game hat, good for him!

Word. I also don't go to their board anymore, it's too frustrating to read.

I was happy that Timonen & Parent got some love from NBC today, nobody really talks about them during broadcasts

Brief but good article about Parent's play:

http://philadelphia.comcastsportsnet...782&feedID=695
Quote:

PITTSBURGH – Once upon a time, the Flyers’ Chris Therien used to turn Jaromir Jagr inside out and simply harass and frustrate one the greatest players in the game.

Ryan Parent wasn’t around for that, but Sunday afternoon at Mellon Arena, the 22-year-old, third-year defenseman did a remarkable job while head-to-head mostly on Sidney Crosby, and even on Evgeni Malkin, neither of whom got a single shot on goal during a 3-1 loss to the Flyers.

“Yeah, I guess so,” Parent said, when asked if he enjoyed making life miserable for Crosby and Malkin. “I’ll play wherever the coaches tell me to play. And if it’s in a shutdown position against a top line, I’ll go out there and try to keep them off the scoreboard.”

That’s only the second time both those players were held without a shot in a game (April 14, 2007 at New Jersey).

“It’s something we were focused on, coming into the game, taking away their time,” Parent said. “Limit their shots and scoring chances. It was a big part of our game. I think that’s a big part of why we won.”

Parent sees the challenges of both players as being different.

“Crosby likes to feed the other guys, especially now that he is playing with [Bill] Guerin,” Parent said. “You’ve got to kind of watch for Guerin because he’ll slip in behind you as Crosby tries to set him up. Makin is just all-around dangerous, I guess. With both guys, all we want to do is take away their time.”

Though they didn’t get a shot, Crosby and Malkin each picked up assists. Crosby now has 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists) in 26 career games against the Flyers. Malkin has 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 21 games.

“If you look at the stats they have, during their career against our team they are pretty staggering,” said Flyers coach John Stevens. “They are both one-two in the scoring or one-two-three if you throw [Sergei] Gonchar in there. So, you better be willing to check and not get caught up ice and I thought we did a good job at that, having a high guy and taking the speed out of the middle of the ice.”

Scott Hartnell, who had the game-winning goal, was impressed with the job Parent did.

“It’s pretty good given the top, two scorers in the league and keep them outside shooting the puck,” Hartnell said. “It was a good effort by all.”

Nice win. But we need more shots on goals boys and more crisp passing.

He's had better GAA and Sv% than him all season.

If Biron can keep up this level of play, the Flyers could make a deep run.

Anyways, I thought we had a solid defensive effort in this game. I notice Opus had to have his Carle hatorade on, Carle had one bad TO in the neutral zone at the beginning of the game and the time where he dallied too long at the end of the game.

Other than that, he was solid. I mean, he logged the most ES ice-time of anyone on the team and the Pens didn't score an ES goal or have very many ES chances for that matter.

Parent-Kimmo were absolutely brilliant. Parent is already a good young player and he's going to be a stud.

I thought Jones was good outside of 3 plays. The first was when he got owned by Staal who centered and Biron had to come up with an excellent save and then the second was the Crosby chance on the 4 on 4 that Jones was just very slow to react to. Then the 3rd was a 2 on 1 where he didn't take the pass and Staal had half the net to shoot at and just missed.

Alberts was also decent.

Coburn had a nice game, maybe could have done a better job of blocking the passing lane on the goal.

I'll also spare a word for Briere who really could have/should have had 2 assists and did well outside of a couple TOs.

The kid really knows how to play defense. Maybe he needs to learn the players and the league a little better, but he looked realy good handling Crosby and Malkin today and you don't get any toguher guys to check than those two.

We were really luck to win that. Between the lack of shots of goal and the wasted 4 minute PP, that could have easily turned the other way. Marty was solid, the defense was pretty solid...we managed to keep the other team below 40 shots.

Let's keep on rollin'. Huge game tomorrow...

Thanks GKJ!

I hope tomorrow is good. I'll be at the game and I hate the Devs more than the Pens!

Exactly, let their defensemen and depth forwards shoot all day. You don't let the other team's top guys beat you and the Flyers didn't. I was very impressed with what I saw today.

Devils just lost to the Bruins 1-4. This game means staying in 4th, and getting them out of our heads for the playoffs. I wish we still had a shot at catching them. Its still mind blowing to me:

Someone tells you.... the pens have to go 10-0-2 to get to FIFTH .

The Devils lose Broduer for MONTHS

The Rags fire their head coach.

We have 6 21+ goal scorers, Marty has a .950 sv% over the last 10 games, and we are now completely healthy.

....I would think we had the Division wrapped up. Stupid Devils.

i caught the first 10 minutes and the last period, and i was pretty impressed. we had turnover issues at the start, but i was pretty happy with the defensive awareness in the 3rd. i'm just glad we didn't cave when we let that powerplay goal in. the pens were surging and the game could have turned out dramatically different.

We're gonna top 100 points which is a fine season. We have no control over how well the Devils do . . . except for tomorrow night.

I missed the 2nd period today, and watched the 3rd from a bar. I had visions of Pittsburgh getting a cheap PP chance, pulling MAF and tying it up. Thankfully that didnt happen, and it was a pretty solid road win. 2-2 after 2 disasters in New York and Detroit. Ill take it. 2 point lead over Pittsburgh with a game in hand.
Was Hartnell's goal orginally credited to Carter? Thought I saw that early in the 3rd that he had the 2nd goal for the Flyers.

the remaining schedule is pretty favorable for the flyers. (on paper) of the remaining 11 games 7 of them are against teams currently out of a playoff spot.

6 home, 5 road
