EDMONTON: 35-27-9, 79 pts VS MINNESOTA: 33-30-8, 74 pts

Game Day: Sunday, March 22, 2009.
Game Time: 1:00pm MST.
Radio: 630 Ched
TV: Sportsnet West.
Location: Xcel Energy Center, in Minnesota.
Referees: Brian Pochmara #43 and Mike Hassenfratz #30.
Linesmen: Mark Pare #79 and Mark Wheler #56.
Score: 3-0 Minny

Well, looks like we're heading into another absolutely huge 4 point game. A win tonight pushes us 7 points ahead of the Wild, a loss puts them within 3 points of us. Marian Gaborik is likely to make his return today, so he could be a huge factor. We can't let that happen!

ROSTER UPDATES: Edmonton Denis Grebeshkov is questionable; Liam Reddox (concussion) is out; Lubomir Visnovsky (torn labrum) is out. Minnesota Marian Gaborik (lower body) is probable. Brent Burns (concussion) is doubtful.

OILERS TO WATCH: Sam Gagner of course, with 15 points in his last 9 game he has really turned his game around. Kotalik is really settling in on that line with Gagner and Nilsson. Nilsson has two goals and four assists for six points in six games with a +7 rating since being a healthy scratch. Also, will Hemsky wake up? We need MacT to have the convo with him that he had with Gagner 9 games ago. Next it'll be goaltending, of course. Not only has Roli started 27 consecutive games...he hasn't had the best of luck against the Wild in his carreer. Infact he has ZERO wins in his last 7 games played in Minny. This is our 3rd game in 4 nights, we play again Tuesday and then Thursday AND Friday as well. I say start JDD.

WILD TO WATCH: Who other than Marian Gaborik? He has played just 6 games this season, coming off surgery...let's hope there is rust, and alot of it. We can't let him be a factor in the game tonight.

MY KEYS TO THE GAME: Our special teams seem to be improving as of late, and guess what? It has lead us to some wins. Minny has the 14th ranked PP, and 2nd ranked PK. Our PP is ranked 10th on the road, and will need to come up huge tonight. We need to start taking advantage of our glorious opportunities early, all the goal mouth scrambles...we need to cash in on the ugly goals. We also NEED Hemsky to wake up. Imagine how good this team could be with the top line performing like a top line, and the Gagner line firing on all cylinders?

A victory against a divisional opponent with whom we've struggled mightily of late would make a real statement.

Gaborik shmaborik. That's right, you read correct.

I'm stepping out with a prognostication of 4-1 Oil. Roli first drops the gloves, then does the same to Clutterbuck.

Let's do this thang!

A win would go a long way in killing the Wild's chances of catching us.

A loss could put them right back in the race.

Roli likes to play a lot, and at this point I don't think we can afford to play JDD. A win over the Wild would go a loooong way to securing a playoff spot. If we can string 2 or 3 more iwns together, then give old man Roli a break. If not, keep on riding him

Win today and I expect we would see JDD in Phoneix or Anaheim.

Any idea on what the lines will look like?

If Grebeshkov is out, Peckam comes in, and he could be the tough guy if MacT wants to dress one. Then maybe we won't need to play Macintyre.

Now that Penner has his legs under him and some confidence, how about these forward lines...

Penner-Horcoff-Hemsky
Nilsson-Gagner-Kotalik
O'Sullivan-Cogliano-Pisani
Moreau-Brodziak-Stortini

This road trip has been an incredible surprise so far. Best 2 games of Oilers hockey I've seen all year took place in the past few days. If they keep winning the races out there I think they'll keep up their offense. You know the team is flying after they lose 60% of face offs but still score 4 goals in regulation.

I don't like significant juggling of lines after a win. I think you keep the top two lines the same and insert Stortini to the fourth line:

O'sullivan - Horcoff - Hemsky
Nilsson - Gagner - Kotalik
Moreau - Cogliano - Pisani
Penner - Brodziak - Stortini

Getting an early lead is key...it allows Mac-t to roll his lines, all of which can contribute without being a defensive liability.

If we win and the Phoenix wins then we'll be in the 90% chance of making the playoffs.

Your lines look good too. I don't like changing it up after 3 straight wins, but the top line really hasn't been the reason we've won any of those games. We've won in spite of the top line recently, since most if not all of the points they've registered were PP points. Either way the lines look good though. It's nice to see a forward roster with only one or two borderline NHL'ers in it, in contrast to earlier on when we had four or five most games.

I'm surprised the Oilers have better winning percentages than the Wild when leading after 20 & 40 minutes.
