And by cold, I mean on ice. It's time for Carolina to go to Flordia, and beat the ever loving **** out of the Panthers, who spoiled the Canes' playoff hopes last season. Well, now it's time to return the favor. Carolina wins this one, they're up to fifth place in the conference, and up seven points on the Cats, who will be in ninth place. Canes lose, and the Panthers move into eighth place, and will only be three points back from the Canes. A must win for the Cats, if they want to play the extra games. Expect both teams to come out with the big guns. This should have all the intensity and excitement of a playoff game.

GO CANES GO!!!

Yay! I was in hopes someone would start this thing out in good time today. I'm a bit nervous about this one tonight. The Panthers GDT has Tanabe out for us. Will we be able to overcome this setback?

Anyways, it will be interesting to see if Cullen can play or not... I'd feel much more comfortable with him in to even out our lines. I'm feeling a return of failboat... Maybe, just maybe though, it will be taking a delivery to our dear friends the Panthers, and just toot at us on its way past...

Damnit, I was going to create the GDT for this one when I woke up. Oh well. Was going to use the same thread title too.

Too bad this one isn't televised anywhere.

Think someone mentioned that they would stream the feed, no? Anyway, I need to get my mojo going again. I needed time to heal and lick my wounds after the Boston beat down. I'll take the Sens game on wed. Hopefully break their streak.

I can't imagine being a Panther fan right now. This stretch run means a lot more to them than just making the post season, which is huge enough, but then there looms the possibility of Bouwmeester leaving town for nothing if they miss. They were in the heat of things at the deadline and were one of the hottest teams in the league, but now things have changed and they're clinging to life. Part of me is a little sad for them about perhaps losing him for nothing if he decides to leave should they miss, but that's a lot of "what if" situations.

I'm just hoping for a clean game and a point. Anything more than that is just additional success.

This game is huge. As I said yesterday it should have the atmosphere of a game 7 playoff game. This game should be showing some true colours of these 2 teams.

As mentioned, if the Canes' win it gives us a boost in the standings and puts a 7 point gap between the teams. Thats huge. If the Cats win, it cuts that gap down to 3.

There is a lot on the line tonight. No questions asked.

Latest Florida coast guard report:

The Failboat has been using terrorist tactics of taking hostages and demanding ransoms. Usually, Canes are the ones to suffer, but last Friday the Failboat suddenly changed its course and surprised Panthers with a visit.

Who will be the victim tonight? To be or not to be that is the question.

P-Rock always lists the injury report, not sure where he finds it all, but I guess he's still listed on the Carolina injury report somewhere. Not that I guess he's coming back.

I wish the Panthers no ill will and hope they make it at the expense of the Habs, Rags or Pens. Not just for SE unity; I like their team.

But I'm not comfortable enough yet to hope for an OT win.

It's a shame that a player that young can qualify for UFA, but his departure would not be the end of the world if management is willing to replace his salary with another impact player or players.

People often point to the Joe Thornton trade as one of the worst trades ever, but it also made a hole for Savard. The B's never would have had both players and they look ok to me now.

BIG game. Canes could really distance themselves between teams like Florida and Buffalo. They could really make noise and show the hockey world that they mean business.

Florida will remain in the hunt with a win tonight. With a lose, it makes it a bit harder for them. Especially with them heading out on the road after tonight.

Which team can handle the pressure?

Is today the day the failboat makes its return?

The recent downfall obviously sucks, but I'm interested to see how they start doing with Horton back and the lines getting back to what gelled earlier in the season. Likely some juggling tonight.

Still 20 points out there and only 1 point out, it's tight, but I'm not losing hope just yet. I'll have to be knocked over the head and dragged out by the bouncer after the lights are turned off before I lose hope. Too much time, money, and emotion invested to give up now.

So far as Bouw is concerned, while it sucks to lose him, I trust Martin and he's done a great job to this point. We certainly didn't think we'd get McCabe last season, he's been HUGE for us this season. If we make the playoffs, FAs will likely be a bit more interested in coming here, trades are possible (including Bouw for picks), and Garrison and Ellerby are in our system. Will be an interesting off-season.

I'm not at all happy that we're opening next season in Finland, but there are Panther fans there who're happy.

True Panthers fans are definitely due to witness a playoff appearance for their team, but seeing as how we haven't locked up anything ourselves at this point, I certainly hope tonight is not a night they receive any points towards their goal. I do applaud their fans that have stuck with the team over the nearly 10 years it's been since they've seen the postseason and are capable of forming a sentence about the Hurricanes without usage of the word "dive".

Well when you simply let your perspective get defined by Potvin's inane and ultra-homeristic ramblings, that's what happens. He's the guy who said Cole was a disgrace and Staal always ends up falling down no matter what the contact.

Of course, the following image is bypassed in the inevitable rehash of the Belfour meltdown that launched the whole media-driven whinefest.

Notice how Allen's skate is tangled with Staal's and his stick is coming up on Staal's other leg right before he goes down?

Gee, I sure hate to be a myth buster but the picture speaks louder than Potvin's blather and Belfour's antics. Plus I hear Horton is working on his tackling moves to see if he can "draw" a diving call tonight.

StormCast, that picture actually made my day. I don't see how any normal person can argue that as soon as Staal steps forward with either foot, he's gonna hit either a skate or a stick. I know we get tired of the other side bringing this up still, but if you happen to have the 2 dives given us at the following game down there I'd love to see them.

Just noticed that Ward is the 1st star of the week in the NHL!!! If that doesn't bring the failboat, I'm not sure what will...

Breaking news: ECUGuy and his buddies are getting ready to divert the Failboard. Will they succeed or will they fail? We'll find out in 7 hours.

Failboat has arrived.

Quote:
Canes goaltender Cam Ward has been named the NHL's First Star of the Week.

Ward was the winner as the Canes defeated New Jersey, the New York Islanders and Washington. He stopped 100 of 107 shots in the three games, with 41 saves against the Devils.

"We've had some things go well for us the last two months but first and foremost we've gotten good goaltending," Canes coach Paul Maurice said today. "He's played a lot, he's carried the load.

"He's calm and confident. His rebound control has been outstanding. That's exactly what we expect of him and certainly what we needed."

Ward has started the last 21 games, setting a new personal high. He was the starter in the last 20 games last season. He has a 13-6-2 record, with a 2.46 goals-against average and .917 save percentage
Cam tends to have very bad games after being named NHL star. See last time (5-0 lose to Florida and 5-1 lose to Columbus).

Yes, I've used that picture before with Panther fans and they are hard pressed, though some try, to still argue.

I don't have images of the other two calls but they were LaRose getting boarded by Jokinen and Williams being tackled by Horton. Those were two outrageously bad calls but it cemented the diving claim for those that had simply formed their opinion via their local, homer reporting.
