Could Sean Avery wear the A ?

Seriously? Is this just impossible with his rep with the refs?

Or perhaps a good idea considering he's yapping all the time anyway. Could it earn him a little more on ice respect with the officials?

You certainly could make a case for the guy. He has been nothing but a positive for the NY Rangers and his work effort, lust for every shift and ultra competitive nature is exactly what this team needs tro emulate to a man.

Certainly deserving. I'd like C-Paul Mara A-Sean Avery A-Ryan Callahan

Take the A off Naslund and put it on Betts, possibly even Callahan.

Problem with the letters is that you can't toss them around the locker room. You have to show that you are serious with them. So not sure right before the play offs I would take the letter off someone...

This.

I hope Torts re-destributes letter next year. Gomez and Naslund really don't seem to deserve them. But hey, don't know what goes on in the locker room.

.

I'm a big Sean Avery fan, but let's get through a season incident free.

I'd be worried that he'd pull another stunt like he did with Marty and those letters signify leadership. If your leaders are acting like clowns, it means it's ok for the rest to also act like clowns.

I could see the A being a possibility now that he went through what he went through, but not until next season.

Aside from those concerns, Avery displays exactly the attributes I would like from our Captain and Alternate Captains.

Absolutely not. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Maybe later, but not now. Besides, non of us knows what kind of leadership he brings. Fine, he plays his heart out on the ice but what goes on in the locker room is every bit as important.

I do agree however that Mara should have an A if not the C.

I'm a huge Avery fan so don't take this as an anti-avery thing.

But he's the type of player that will always be a "controlled" player. Whether it is by the captains or the coach. I don't see any leadership qualities in him on or off the ice. And I think one of the reasons is because Avery cares about Avery and not much else.

With that said - he's kicking some major A so far!

mara should get an A, no way that avery is respected enough by his teammates or the refs to be an assisted captain.

Mara, Callahan, and Dubinsky all deserve it first. I can't see Avery being a leader in the locker room.

He's producing. He's playing on the first line and he's getting major ice time from a coach who not too long ago said that he shouldn't even be in the league.

I think Avery's situation is just fine the way it is.

I'll respect Torts a helluva lot more if he re-distributes the letters next year. These are Renney's captain's not his, and to be honest I'm surprised it wasn't one of the first things he did when named coach.

If I'm torts:

C-Mara
A-Dubinsky
A-Callahan
A-Staal

yeah three A's. Get over it.

if they give someone like Mara or Callahan the C, you guys are going to fall out of love with them quicker than with Drury this year.

i make avery my captain in NHL 09. so when i win the stanley cup bettman has to give the cup to avery

id have Mara be captain with Staal and Dubes getting the A's in real life though. i think if we resign dubes he will eventually be this teams captain.

Asking if Avery could ever wear an A is like asking for milk with your Turkish coffee--never!

hardy har har, that's all i have to say

do u really think the Rangers would give Avery an "A"

I mean I think the guy is great for the team and all but he will never ever get a A or C anywhere in the league

there are plenty more deserving and more appropriate players to wear the "A" than Avery. Avery plays to his role well, giving him a letter IMO is overextending him.

Guys that have the letters now are more appropriate than Avery, and then there are players without a letter that are more deserving too:
Mara, Staal, Girardi, Morris, Callahan, Dubinsky, Betts
