If Joe Micheletti didn't shove it down our throat Chico style on a nightly basis, "Staal outmatched" would be a very common theme.

with vally. well......
couldnt agree more. Vally was not good imho. those 2 from behind the net made me want to vomit blood.

we win with Henrik in net, hands down.

Well nice to see a little hint of Bobby Knight in Tortorella's repertoire.
If I was the coach, I couldn't of said it better. It's obvious what he's pissed about. All of those power play opportunities down the drain. Maybe that's why Zherdev didn't participate in the shoot out? Some more "tough love" possibly? IMO, I think he was sending the message, you're going to play like **** on the PP?? And now you want me to reward you by giving you a shoot out opportunity?? This is my opinion and I'm not saying that I agree. I'm just saying this is what Tortorella might be thinking.

"Torts" better get used to this. Welcome to the New York Rangers. Besides Toronto and Montreal, there's probably no tougher place to coach.

I like Staal, but Joe's love for Staal borders on stalker-ish. "What a great play by Staal!" "Staal is having a strong game tonight, isn't he, Sam?" Would be nice to hear some objective commentary for once.

I agree, but if we are trying to convince people we are a playoff caliber team, we should be able to beat a team that is 13th in the East and 20 points behind us with our backup goaltender.

Sure you need a goalie to steal you some wins, but you shouldn't be 'stealing' wins from a team like Atlanta.

Bad game for Vally...again. He is not getting another start I'm guessing.

Torts better fire these guys up for Saturday. There are two HUGE points up for grabs and the Rangers need them badly. Every game is against playoff teams now. Time to tighten the jock straps and bear down boys.

"Yeah, I thought we sucked," Tortorella said. "Right on through the game. I think we're fortunate to get a point, very fortunate to get that."

The follow-up was about Rangers players saying how hard it is to flick a switch - they started poorly in the first period and, even when they were up 4-1.

"I don't give a &*$#(@ what the guys talked about," Tortorella said. "We sucked."

couldnt have said it better myself Torts.

I think he's fared extremely well playing #1 minutes as a 22 year old. It's stupid to expect perfection. Even the best defensemen in the league have games where they go -3 or -4

Yeah he and Girardi looked tired out there.. but they have been playing the most minutes of their career lately. They are going to have off nights

By the way, I didn't think Staal was that bad today. If two of the goals didn't happen... which they shouldn't have... no one would be talking about them him and Girardi right now

I think it's obvious now that Tortorella has a serious problem with Zherdev, and he's not going to be back with the team next season unless something changes.

turnovers, and lazy play.

i think Torts is doing the right thing here. Zherdev can be a billion times better than he is. but he needs to earn his ice time.

Don't think Zherdev will change. The whole laid back thing is just the type of player he is... unfortunately. Even when he's playing hard he looks lazy sometimes simply because of the way he skates and handles the puck. Of course the best thing then would be to use him less minutes. The only problem of course is that we don't really have anyone better than him, even when he's playing just average.

was absolute BS!

if torts wants to make a point to zherdev... do it during the game.. or at practice....

NOT WHEN WE NEED HIM IN THE SHOOTOUT!

Or does torts not know we shoot zherdev in the SO?? IDIOT!

WE NEEDED THAT POINT...put the stubbornness aside.

Exactly !! This is why we are going to miss the playoffs. I am predicting that we miss by 2 points.....

In the first period we had a 5 on 3 powerplay and one of the Thrashers didn't have a stick and we didn't get a shot on goal. Explain to me how that is possible?

The team scored 4 goals... And got 2 on the powerplay. No matter what game you are playing, 4 goals has to be enough to win.

Valiquette lets in two goals that are beyond horrible... ANd to be honest, I thought the first was soft too. Shot was right at the glove hand and he had clear view. That puck was not coming in that hard.

I place a lot of the blame of this game right at Valiquette. Those two goals are not NHL goals. ANd if one of them can happen every once in a long while, there is no possible way that two should happen in one game.

Zherdev has to be in there on that shootout... Whether Torts likes him or not, he's the most talented player on the team. Zherdev is trying out there, he just has a style that suggests he sometimes is not.

Torts seems like he's trying to break Zherdev down and build him up into the player he wants. Problem is, he'll piss Zherdev off enough where Nick isn't going to bother coming back. People bring up this consistency garbage, but Zherdev has been the same player every night this year... I've seen a lack of effort with some Rangers in years passed, but I don't see that with Zherdev.
