Well nice to see a little hint of Bobby Knight in Tortorella's repertoire.
If I was the coach, I couldn't of said it better. It's obvious what he's pissed about. All of those power play opportunities down the drain. Maybe that's why Zherdev didn't participate in the shoot out? Some more "tough love" possibly? IMO, I think he was sending the message, you're going to play like **** on the PP?? And now you want me to reward you by giving you a shoot out opportunity?? This is my opinion and I'm not saying that I agree. I'm just saying this is what Tortorella might be thinking.
"Torts" better get used to this. Welcome to the New York Rangers. Besides Toronto and Montreal, there's probably no tougher place to coach.
If Joe Micheletti didn't shove it down our throat Chico style on a nightly basis, "Staal outmatched" would be a very common theme.
I like Staal, but Joe's love for Staal borders on stalker-ish. "What a great play by Staal!" "Staal is having a strong game tonight, isn't he, Sam?" Would be nice to hear some objective commentary for once.
Bad game for Vally...again. He is not getting another start I'm guessing.
Torts better fire these guys up for Saturday. There are two HUGE points up for grabs and the Rangers need them badly. Every game is against playoff teams now. Time to tighten the jock straps and bear down boys.
Don't think Zherdev will change. The whole laid back thing is just the type of player he is... unfortunately. Even when he's playing hard he looks lazy sometimes simply because of the way he skates and handles the puck. Of course the best thing then would be to use him less minutes. The only problem of course is that we don't really have anyone better than him, even when he's playing just average.
The team scored 4 goals... And got 2 on the powerplay. No matter what game you are playing, 4 goals has to be enough to win.
Valiquette lets in two goals that are beyond horrible... ANd to be honest, I thought the first was soft too. Shot was right at the glove hand and he had clear view. That puck was not coming in that hard.
I place a lot of the blame of this game right at Valiquette. Those two goals are not NHL goals. ANd if one of them can happen every once in a long while, there is no possible way that two should happen in one game.
Zherdev has to be in there on that shootout... Whether Torts likes him or not, he's the most talented player on the team. Zherdev is trying out there, he just has a style that suggests he sometimes is not.
Torts seems like he's trying to break Zherdev down and build him up into the player he wants. Problem is, he'll piss Zherdev off enough where Nick isn't going to bother coming back. People bring up this consistency garbage, but Zherdev has been the same player every night this year... I've seen a lack of effort with some Rangers in years passed, but I don't see that with Zherdev.
