I dunno. From what I've read he takes pleasure in administering physical pain to opponents. I guess the real question regarding him is the "snap" factor. That hit on that Czech player during the WJC looked highly suspect.

Is this mindset from a highly-touted prospect really a good thing? I wonder.

I wonder how much time each day you spend trying to come up with negative spins on everything Flames related so you can stir the pot BR?

Naw.
He hasn't punched out a teammate yet in Red Deer.

Ummmm....how do you possibly equate an open-ice body check with a sucker punch from behind?

Wow, thats a new low, even for you and your yellow journalism aspirations.

That hit had, ironically enough, more in common with Moore's hit on Naslund than with Bert's assault.

We'd have to define "the mindset". From this thread, it's abundantly clear we don't see things the same since you equate someone losing his composure and avenging a teammate with borderline dirty hits.

The mindset in each case is drastically different.

Phaneuf is part of a new wave of players who have grown to accept (along with the fans, sadly)that it is ok, even great, to take someone out and injure him in borderline legal game situations. Is this really a good thing? I don't know. According to many hockey fans who suffer from a lack of empathy while they comfortably look the game on TV, it is.

From my point of view, where hockey should be a game and people only have one brain in a lifetime, it isn't. From a coldly rational standpoint, the only minus to this aspect of Phaneuf is that he sometimes will look for the big hit a bit too much and that may put him in difficult defensive situation.

There is nothing in common between Phaneuf's actions and Bertuzzi's, except the result being concussions.

"The next Bertuzzi" would be someone who is a physical beast with a short fuse and bad temper.

I believe his quote was something like 'I like to hit to hurt, but I don't want to hurt to maim.'

Phaneuf is one of the most controlled guys out there, he knows he can't afford to take dumb penalties on his team, stop posting crap.
