If the refs start calling a penalty on him which they should, it will end real quick.

to Ben Gomez's point: is the lack of calls related to diving increasing the diving, or is it a combo of that and a lack of calls being made on legit penalties that seems obvious? I look at Avery and see a guy who's fouled upon more than the refs call, by a large margin. Is his diving a result of this and he's trying to get the refs to take notice and make the calls, or is it Avery just being Avery and he's trying to manufacture a call, even though he knows that he won't get the benefit of the doubt?

Avery has been diving for years.

Hahaha. Diving is lame, I must say...but when you're THAT exaggerated about it, it's just pure comedy.

At least he's nowhere near as bad as certain other players [Crosby].

Just felt this was the opportunity to share this lovely video, almost rivaling or surpassing the Avery LA Kings dive from the Jagr brush.

Lol, looks like he got shot. The Avery was was still worse though. I think Avery goes down as #1 of all time. The way he went downwards then jumped and shot out sideways was hysterical.

Before I get 1000 flames, understand that YES, I hate it too, the diving in NHL hockey has increased about 3,482,480% in the last few years, and it's disgusting, but refs ARE NOT CALLING DIVES.

THAT is what is fueling all of the diving. As a Devils fan, I hate it more than most, because Sutter is so old-school anti-diving that it is hurting the Devils when they dont dive but the Habs, Caps, Canes, Pens, etc..... will ALL dive. I blame it on the refs for not utilizing the 2 minute "diving" penalty NEARLY ENOUGH.
Your not gonna get flamed however, my problem is that he HAS to dive in order to get calls. Penalties that should be obvious to Ray Charles arent called so he takes it into his own hands to get them. Its a problem of the system, not the player.

At the same time, if you carry the reputation as a diver, referees will be less inclined to call legitimate penalties committed against you. It's the "Boy who Cried Wolf" deal.

Avery loses a lot calls because he embellishes, true. But that's part of his game. I think he's been pretty good about feeling out a game and adjusting his routine. Some games, his "agitating" has no effect so he just plays hockey. Against the other teams, he pokes, dives, skirts the crease etc. and it's not only effective but entertaining.

He's definitely good--and getting better--at adjusting. Agitation aside, the guy is also a quality hockey player.

He shouldn't have dropped his glove if he was going to rag doll like that. Let's not make this out to be something that it's not. Dropping the glove insinuated a desire to fight, regardless of whether or not he acted on it. That play was called correctly.

He doesn't really dive, but he embellishes like mad sometimes once he's already falling down. And he falls down a lot because he plays with such an element of abandon.

I think that had more to do with the fact that he was getting ready to defend himself in case Clarkson started throwing.

naw. really not a penalty.

avery needs to have his right hand locked and loaded if clarkson starts throwin. shaking off the glove when yer other hand is locked up isnt unusual. when i played my gloves fit tight on my wrists and didnt come right off. he was just making sure he could defend himself with his fist if need be.

bad call. avery didnt deserve a penalty there. at all.

if avery had taken a bad penalty there and say ruined hanks shutout, people would be foaming at the mouth at avery.

finally, avery gets it. hes playing smarter.

I don't mind the ref giving Avery 2 there, especially since they gave Clarkson a double.

If Clarkson got a game for that, and Avery got sent back to bench, he's easily getting runned by someone in his next shift.

Kill the tension a little bit, lower Avery's last shift. IMO more of a tactical "control the game" type penalty by the ref, don't disagree with it that much at that point in the game.

1st period? Maybe, but like 8 min left in the 3rd of a game the Rangers have in the books, I'll let it slide.
