Norris trophy winner (update)

Only a couple weeks left. Who dyou think it will be?

I give the edge to Green over Chara. Hes posting the best offensive season by dman in some time, and to do it in a defensive era is quite impressive. He will (surely) be the first 30 goal scorer since Kevin Hatcher in 92-93 (one of the highest scoring years ever). As much as he is ordinary defensively, hes still a +24 which is enough for me.

A few weeks ago, I gave the edge to Chara over Lidstrom.

Now, I give the edge to Lidstrom over Chara.

Green has been too up and down defensively to get serious consideration in my opinion. He's not a top option on his team's PK, which is a huge minus for a supposedly elite defenseman. He's also missed quite a few games.

1- Chara
2- Lidstrom
3- Green
4- Markov

in that order, but I voted for Markov because I'm a homer

I'm a little biased so I voted for Keith. He's one of my favourite players in the league....

Norris trophy goes to defencemen who excels best at both sides of the rink.

1. Lidstrom (best overall)
2. Green (best offensively)
3. Chara (best defensively)

what about willie mitchell?, he's +31 on a up-and-down vancouver and somewhat a pk specialist

ok, he's crappy offensively but who cares really?

Rational voters. Offense is half the battle.

I think it's close between Lids and Chara, so naturally I made the totally unbiased choice and picked Lidstrom.

From that list, it's probably going to be one of those top 3.
But isn't the Norris for best defenseman? All the players listed up there have good numbers, but there are some d-men among the league who focus mainly on defense and hardly ever on offence

The league needs to introduce a Best Defensive Defenseman Award imo.

I would take Boyle dynamic offense over Mitchell's great defense.
Depends on what your team needs, but Boyle really ignites the play. His defense has been roughly 7 out of 10 this year as well(As opposed to his lackluster play the year before in his own end). The difference in offense is greater than the difference in defense.

The Norris has generally always been awarded to the best two way defenseman. In extreme cases, it was awarded to someone whose offense was so staggering that it overwhelmed defensive lapses, or a defenseman who was so expert at shutting down a game and controlling opposing players that he was recognized, but for the majority of Dmen, it was two way play.

Green deserves it over Lidstrom and Chara, imo.

I don't get why forwards get 3 awards (Art Ross, Richard, Selke) and goalies get 2 (Vezina, Jennings), while defenseman only get 1.

It's kind of offensive really.

I think the NHL needs to add a bunch of new trophies to make it fair.
Gretzky Trophy for assists.
Orr Trophy..etc

Actually i agree with adding one Trophy, the orr Trophy. And that pone would go to Mike Green in a heart beat.

And no one put Phaneuf in the thread , He s incredible. I would pick Phaneuf over any one in the NHL to be my top D.

But if they added another d-man Trophy than that would mean that Lidstrom would never have a chance at another Norris. Like

I picked Lidstrom but I expect this to be the closest Norris race in years which is great to see. You can't go wrong with Chara or Green either (yes Green is not even in the top 30 defensively but his offense is head and shoulders above anyone else right now)
