Chara, but being a Bruins fan and him being a Bruin I won't vote. Doubt I'm being as impartial as I should be.

Lidstrom is.........(among d-men)

5:th in points
4:th in +/-

Chara is

14:th in points
9:th in +/-

Something that might be Nicks downfall this season, is the fact that he doesn't have as much ice time as he had when he was younger.

He'll turn 40 next season, right?

Just noticed who has the most ice time in the league, any guesses?

I barely give the edge to Chara over Lidstrom.

I can't believe that Mike Green is being mentioned as, and probably will be, a nominee for the Norris. It's the trophy for the best defenseman, not the player most similar to An_y _elmore.

Quick, when was the last time Andy Delmore scored 30 goals, 70 points in under 70 games?

I mean for an NHL team.

Yeah, his best year saw 38 points.

Awesome comparison.

I can't wait for the Norris voting to come out.

Lidstrom has won the thing several years running and there are at least two other deserving players in contention. Best bet is on one of them winning it, and only one of them is breaking records this year.

I know I'm a Homer but Markov is quietly having a very good year. He's great on both sides of the puck. I know Green is the better offensive player but Markov is better defensively while still putting quite a few points on the board. Obviously Chara & Lidstrom are the top 2 nominees but I think Markov should be considered with Green for the 3rd nominee spot.

I'm actually really starting hope Green wins it, just to see some of these Wings fans implode.

I think Chara has earned it this year, he's been outstanding. It's going to be tight between him and Lidstrom.

Lidstrom is putting up good defensive numbers in front of Osgood. Chara is putting up good defesnsive numbers in front of Thomas.

Nothing implied, just facts.

I'd call it a tie between Lidstrom and Chara right now. I voted for Lidstrom because I was being held at gunpoint... It was Lidstrom or death.

Stupid gunman, skewing HFBoards polls.

I voted Lidstrom a while ago, but the more Green keeps scoring the more hard it will be to deny him this trophy.

Green has 30G-70pts in 63gp. That's a 0.47 pace for goals, and 1.11 pace for points. With 5 games left, technically he'll end up with 32G-75pts in 68gp. Translated that means 38G-91pts over 82gp.

For a defenseman!

Those stats are mindboggling, in this era..

People here consider +/- not important stat.

If Green keeps scoring like this, its going to be hard to deny him the trophy. He is even starting to win me over. His offense is overwhelming and his defense has actually improved a good deal. Still makes the occasional boneheaded move, but I am getting more and more impressed.

And I was a staunch Green detractor a few months ago.

Mostly because its an objective stat that requires careful examination.

Many boneheads simply look at the number and assume whoever has the best +/- is playing the best two way hockey when that is far from the case.

shaone morrison

if greens name was lidström this wouldn't be much of a discussion really. red wings has some depth on the d with rafalski, kronwall and stuart. caps depth is called brian pothier, tom poti, milan jurcina, shaone morrison and john erskine ...

green's actually quite a good defender in his own zone. is scoring goals such a sin?. it's like, ah, look at that defenseman! he scores a lot of goals, must be something wrong, yes you know i'll bet he's real crappy in his own end ... grumps, grumps ... are you kidding?, i would even call him a liability ... or worse: a forward

So you are arguing that Lidstrom's defensemen are better by listing the three worst defensemen on the Red Wings this year, minus Chelios and Lebda?

Horrible, horrible argument.
