Jancevski and Stafford Recalled

I hate injuries.

I really do.

I just got off the phone with Les Jackson and he said the team will be calling up Dan Jancevski and Garrett Stafford to fill out the defense.

Trevor Daley (lower body) is listed as day to day. He was getting fitted with a brace for his knee and is being called questionable for Monday's game in Phoenix. He will be on the road trip, so Tuesday is also a possibility.

Stephane Robidas (lower body) is up in the air. He was walking around after the game, but they may want to be careful with him.

Mark Fistric (upper body) is probably out a bit longer, maybe a week or more.

Excellent tanking moves, no glimmer of hope, no possibility of improvement.

I don't see the logic of not recalling Vishnevskiy over Stafford, unless it has more to do with wanting to reward Stafford for a nice season.

Could be that, also Peoria is in line for a playoff spot. They may want him there rather than the ten minutes of ice time they know Tippet would play him up here.

So is Dallas, or so the conventional wisdom within the organization believes.

The organization or delusional fans?

If you're talking about Tippet's quote, I take that to mean they're not going to quit, just roll through the motions the final seven games and not even try to play hard or win. I expect that from him and the players on the ice. Doesn't mean Les Jackson is blind to the fact that he's closer to the 6th spot in the draft than his team is to the playoffs.

Tippett's quote, combined with the quotes of every player quoted after last night's game, combined with the history of the franchise. If the Stars didn't think they had a chance at the playoffs, Vishnevskiy would have been recalled. This move is a short-term fix, not a long-term strategy or plan.

Heika updated Daley and Robidas' situation. After saying they were only questionable and that Daley would be on the trip, Hekia is reporting that Daley and Robidas won't even travel with the team.

UPDATE: I just talked to Dave Tippett and Trevor Daley, Stephane Robidas, Mark Fistric and Brian Sutherby are not expected to be on the trip. I guess they will run with six defensemen, and adjust if necessary.
This 6 game slide should reach 8 against Phoenix and Colorado now. Sydor and Niskanen are your top D pair with Hutchinson, Grossman, Jancevski, and Stafford rounding out the rest for at least the next 2 games.

We need more Sydor minutes if we ever want to scratch the top 5 draft pick.

This is all I wanted last night, and this is what I will root for (again, I understand the logic, we just come from completely opposite approaches).

As for Vishnevskiy, two things - I don't think he'd get a good the organization would be able to get a good read on his NHL-readiness even if he did come up because he'd be completely over exposed in a porous, depleted defense. That's a recipe for disaster with young defensemen who are very prone to issues with confidence (see: Niskanen, Matt). If Peoria is in line to make the playoffs, it makes oodles more sense to leave him there, let him play bigger minutes in a situation where he can succeed than to bring him up where he's much more likely to fail.

Think of Grossman and Fistric last year. Both came up because of injuries to key guys on the blueline, but the Stars were also playing well defensively overall at the time. They were in a position to succeed by starting with around 10 minutes a night in a unit that was playing well. Vishnevskiy would have to play with a unit that couldn't stay with a speedy forward even if they had a head start on the guy.

He'll get his shot up in Dallas next training camp - it's not like the organization doesn't have that type of hope for him.

That's so bad it's almost funny. I've never seen our D Depth so thin in all my life. It's a sad day to see those names rolling out on the ice, especially the top pairing. The amount of injuries this year is unbelievable. I still have to rub my eyes at times and shake my head.
