oilers unbeaten in the last 11 games in regulation, record has been 6-0-2-3.

why am i posting that here, because in the last 11 games ethan moreau has stats of 11gp-6g-5a-11p-(+9). How many GWG or GTG he's had during that period i aint got a clue.

After last night I have to say that I agree with Moreau for MVP. He almost singlehandedly kept the Oilers play-off hopes alive. He and the defensive pairing of Ulanov and Bergy.

Much deserved recognition for Ethan Moreau. This guy has stepped up in every big game and leads by example. Heart and Soul. Speaking of which, many posters will remember Ethan was a junior line-mate of the all talent, no heart Jason Bonsignore. Any coincidence their careers have taken vastly different paths?

I will also standup as one of the pre-season posters who didn't want the Oil to trade Moreau. Thank you Ethan for making us all believers. MVP! MVP! MVP!

Dawgbone, I've tried to maintain you link. Hopefully it will appear below:

I've said it before.

Last night Moreau reminded me of a gap-toothed St. Albert boy on both those goals.

Man he's fast carrying the puck.

Every goalie he gets a breakaway on must feel hesitant to take their eyes of him while trying to handling the rebound..............because this guy might knock you ass over tea kettle.

This is unreal, I think this is the first time this season Dawgbone has been getting this kind of love. I don't know if he just got lucky or are somehow infusing Ethan with good karma, but ever since he started this thread Ethan's taken it to the next level. A 20 goal scorer Who would of thought?

Let me pose a question though. There's been some talk that Moreau is just a bit of a late bloomer and he can consistently bring this second-tier power forward game in the future. There's been other talk that Ethan has stepped up his game through sheer force of will and heart, but that there is no way he could consistently bring this game season after season and he is still just a 3rd line player who won't score more then 10-15 goals in the future.
What do you guys think?
Before the season started, I think most people had Moreau penciled in for 10-15 goals and a blood & guts effort on the third line. We were all looking for the Torres', Hemskys & Isbisters to undergo some offensive development this year, believing that Moreau had topped out. If Moreau has somehow turned the corner and can maintian his offensive presence, the Oilers are going to be even deeper then we thought.

I personally thing Ethan can step it up even further. Once Reasoner is back next year we'll really see some sparks. Those two have GREAT chemistry and will be the backbone of our checking line for a while. Reasoner is just itching to break out. Even in the 2 games he came back for, he looked great.

Moreau will still stay as a 3rd line player but only becuase he has Smyth and Torres ahead of him.

But we roll 4 lines for the most part so being on the third line doesn't mean too much to us.

with mact comparing moreau's play of late to messiers no doubt in my mind this guy should be our mvp. earlier in the year, york to me was the mvp but with his injury moreau moved to the front. i was critical of you moreau earlier in the year, but so far in 04 you have elevated your game to another level.
if we make the playoffs moreau will be the significant reason why we do. GO OILERS GO.

unless my math is wrong

At his current pace if Ulanov had played 79 games..

7 goals
28 assists
35 points
+37

Just for comparison, Chara is the leader for the Norris this year IMHO

He is projected for a 79 game season for

16 goals
24 assists
40 points
+37

hmmmmmm should Uols be resigned?

I was one of the guys who though Moreau was expendable because of his contract but i'm more than happy to eat my words. To me,it's not even close because he wins in a landslide.

rabi_sultan,i agree with your #1 choice but you most be joking about the rest of your list?York would obviously be higher on the list if he wasn't injured but could you honestly say that Dvorak,Torres and Horcoff have been more valuable to this team than Smith,Smyth or Brewer? To include Horcoff on this list and not include the likes of Stoll or Laraque makes no sense. Good ol' Horcoff stunk for half the season just like big George. Sure Smyth & Brewer have had their ups and downs this year but their play has turned around this team more than anyone listed above,IMO.I'd say:

Moreau(by a landslide)
York
Smith
Smyth
Brewer
Dvorak

Yeah but does anyone know who the Ulanov-Bergeron pairing has been playing against for the most part. I have a feeling its the weaker 4th lines and such, but maybe I'm wrong.

it is great, but then again, can EDM compete with other offers/do they even want to?

Ulanov has been great this year, but if you have to give him a 2 or 3 year deal to get him back, maybe that isn't in EDM's best interest with an impending lockout, youngsters coming up, etc.

On the other hand, if you do resign Igor maybe it lets you explore trading Smith come the right offer?

I think that if they want to sign him, the will be able to. I think that he has played so well here and so poorly elsewhere that it is in his best interest and that he would want to play here.

Igor has been through this before

that's a good point that you bring back Ulanov for cheaper and deal off Smith because at the end of the day you hope that Semi finds a reg spot next season ALONG with Bergeron and maybe even one of Lynch or Woywitka.

But I still can't see MacT tolerating a D with all three of those kids.

And getting back to Igor, he was a UFA before and found he couldn't excel anywhere else. Might have been just because he was on bad teams. But he's been talking up his comfortability factor so maybe he'll be one of the few players that's lead by his heart rather than his wallet.

Moreau's work ethic has never been the problem...

What always set him back was he would race down the wing and hum a slap shot from the half boards and blow it past the net.

He's now pulling the same thing an old Oiler great use to do, drive to the net and put everything and everyone into it (here's a hint... #9).

He hasn't gotten better, just smarter and with that a little luckier.

actually only horcoff was the joke

i only said Dvorak and Torres because they were two factors that remained largely consistent and kept us in the games during our really poor part of the season. this compared to our hugely inconsistent performanves from everyone in the year, save Moreau.
