I had an amusing thought.

We're down here in the unspeakable depths with clubs like Phoenix and LA, yeah.

But what if it turns out that the Stars execute this tank perfectly?

You have teams like Toronto that constantly shoot themselves in the foot by making late season runs despite season after season of futility.

Maybe the Stars are just good enough, innately, to fail the hardest down the stretch.

Colorado is beating us at failing the hardest, but if they win their next game and we lose this one we'll be tied in failfest 2009. Still, losing 6 in a row is just awful, and with all these injuries that top 6 pick is looking more and more likely.

HF if you're around, or piqued if she's not, keep a close eye on Brunnstrom's skating for me, will you? Something seems off about him (which is why I continue to think he's still struggling with his ankle), mostly in a lack of speed and lack of explosive first step. Let me know if I'm making that up, please?

Brunnstrom did have that play where he chipped the puck into the zone and outskated the D... but I'll keep an eye on him. He should get at least a few leading passes on the rush out of Wandell.

I actually get to watch the game too, so I'll let you know, even though I haven't seen him as much as I like this season, so the other two may have a better basis in comparison.

Erm... where was Stephan on that?

Poor kid. This is such a no-win situation for him, and he's not helping either at this point.

Edit: Yeah, hf is timeshifting my posts. That was deflected, but it was also a Turco-esque overcommit.

The way things are looking, I see Dallas doing just what Philly did a few years back; in 05-06, they made the playoffs with a strong performance. The following year, they finished dead last in the NHL by a sizable margin, lost the lottery and ended up taking JVR 2nd overall. Then last year they're back in contention, going all the way to the semis.

Aside from a repeat of this year's injury struggles decimating the roster again, I see no reason why Dallas can't do the same thing. It'd be even better if they actually manage to pick 2nd.

Heh, Hutchinson goal. That amuses me much more than it should.

Piqued - I just remember him being a much more explosive type skater, some of the rushes he made towards the net, often cutting toward the backhand.

Heee, Begin. Can he be new GoodTeammateBarch if he'll fight like that?

Turco would get eaten alive if he let a goal like that in.

Razor is so biased against Stephan. It's pretty pathetic really.

Jancevski deflects it past Stephan and in.

It was definitely deflected, but it was also a huge overcommit. Turco-esque, just without the threat of a pass that usually gets Turco flailing around.

Stephan really likes to overcommit on the puck.

That's a team-wide issue this year.

I will admit, if Jancevski or Stafford scores a goal, this may go down as the funniest game ever.

That was a conglomeration of defensive fail there. Was that the Jancevski pair still out there, or had they switched?

Not great by any one of the six guys on the ice. That wasn't good at all.

They score. And Stephan is failing hard. Ribeiro gets hit and it leads to a goal. Awful defense, can't blame Stephan that much for that.

Either way, 4-2 Yotes.
