Atlantic Division Title? Am I crazy?

I am crazy...but I want to point something out, and it is still a possibility...

in the 05-06 season the rangers and devils were in race for the Atlantic Division Title, and that is right when the Rangers hit a losing streak going into the playoffs, and the the devils went on a winning streak, with 1 win we clinch the title, but it never happened, as it happened devils clinched the title and swept nyr in the first round.

Now, present day, 08-09 season...
We have 5 games remaining (10 points), currently we have 89 points.
NJD only has 98 points...if the Devils continue on their losing streak, and the Rangers win their last 5 games (great momentum going into the playoffs) (we play philly 2 times, 4 points that would kill their chances of taking the Atlantic Division Title) that gives the Rangers 99 points to the Devils 98, we win the Division and are 3rd in the East.

Am I crazy? Yes, but that is besides the point! LET'S GO RANGERS!!!! WIN NYC THE DIVISION!!!!!

According to the Rodent's site, there is no mathematical possibility for the Rangers to win the division title.

It is indeed possible, yet extremely unlikely. That thing he has on his sight appears to use some baseless, arbitrary formula.

There's no chance of a team as good as the Devils going on an 11 game losing streak. As awesome as that would be, it's just not going to happen.

Yes your crazy, but I like your enthusiasm.

Additionally this appropriatley distinguishes Rodent for what he is, an analyst wanna be.

New Jersey would have to go on an epic run of SUCK for the Rangers to even have a shot. At this point all I am concerned with is just getting into the playoffs and going from there.

Yes, very crazy . It could happen, but the chances are so unlikely it shouldn't really be a thought.

But if it did happen, man that would be ironic.

If you were saying that the Rangers could win home ice, I'd say that's doable, but the division? I'd say that at most we'd have a 1% chance, and that's being generous.

What about Pittsburgh and Philly? They'd have to suck as well for this to even be possible. It ain't gonna happen...

Okay...so I just realized something, Pitts is playing NJ tonight, I can't believe how crazy I am, since Rangers are 1 point behind Pitts it would make sense for me to root for NJ tonight, but I'm going to be hoping for Pitts to win tonight in regulation and drop the rest of their games, or most of their final games.

And the part about philly would have to do bad that others are asking about, Rangers play them 2 more times!!!! 2!!!! thats 4 points!!!

So tonight I will do the unthinkable, the one thing I have never ever done and never ever wanted to do, I'm going to be watching the NJ v. Pitts game tonight and hoping for a Pitts win..

Yup I've lost it!!!

sidenote: think of what an amazing game the final game of the season would be Rangers and Philly tied in points at the top of the division, winner takes the title and 3rd place for the playoffs.
Dreams come true!!! "Do you believe in miracles?" YES!!!!!

Sorry, this is a pipe dream. It's silly to root for Pittsburgh to beat NJD when the Rangers still have a realistic shot to outpoint the Penguins. The Rangers technically have a chance to outpoint the Devils but to beat out 3 teams ahead of them for the division title is just not going to happen.

All Devils needs is to get one point and they outseed the Rangers. Rangers has 5 games left which means if they win all 5 games they have 45 wins. If Devils only get 1 point for the rest of the games they have 47 wins. The tiebreaker is wins and the Devils edge Rangers in that.

If the Devil's lose every one of their remaining games and the Rangers win all of theirs, I will jump off a bridge.
