Rinne, though I didn't realize he's as old as he is.

Neither did I. It just shows how Hiller is flying under the radar and how much attention Rinne is getting. In the top 10 goalies thread this year Rinne ranks in a lot of people's top 10's but Hiller's stats are mildly better in almost the same amount of games.

I think Rinne up for rookie of the year has a lot to do with it.

Looks like the Ducks are leaning on Hiller now over Giguere, those are some big shoes to steel. I wonder who the Ducks go with in the playoffs if they make them?

I didn't vote because I haven't seen enough of either of them to make a decision.

While I'm not saying Hiller's better, in only 6 fewer games his stats are better. Again, not saying it should be Hiller, Rinne has been better this season, but how is it not close?

Stats? Rinne's record and shutouts definitely trump the very extremely trivial difference in GAA and sv%. The difference is so small and unnoteworthy that it could take just 1 game to sway in Rinne's favor.

What I got from this poll is that I had no idea how many games Hiller plays! Nice stats too.

I think you still have to take Rinne right now though.

My question is does Hiller qualify for rookie of the year?

or does his 23 games in the year before disqualify him for rookie of the year nomination?

Hiller's carreer stats look even more impresive if you factor in his 23 games in his first year.

63 - Games Played
29 - Wins
21 - Losses
2.16 -GAA
.925 - SV%
4 - SO

He also dominated the little time he spent in the AHL with 2.11 GAA and a .929 SV%.

He was apperently well known for winning a lot of high pressure games when he played in the Swiss league.

One thing is for sure Burke sure is good at finding good hidden talent. He was an undrafted free agent.

Well, one thing to account for is that because the Preds lack offense, they have to take more risks to generate chances. The Preds gave up so many odd man rushes last night, and Rinne had to make 2nd and 3rd saves off the initial save. In addition, the Preds are filled with many fringe players, who are fringe players for a reason...

...and Giguere's been pulled a lot this year. Hiller has only started 33 games.

When Hiller first entered the league, he played in a few excellent goaltending duels with one of Jonathan Quick or Erik Ersberg against the Kings.

But he's not a reliable #1 like I would classify Rinne.

Hiller has only looked better because of how poorly Giguere has played IMO

I think your grabbing at straws here. If you do the math they both make 2.25 saves per minute played. Your also suggesting that Rinne gives up a lot of rebounds having to make 2nd and 3rd saves. Also Rinne hasn't started all 47 games either he has started 43.

Also if you look you will find Hiller has more career games and if you compare their career stats Hiller's are better then Rinne's and Hiller has 12 more games played in his career. By no means am I saying Hiller is better but I am saying that it is really close. Hiller has slipped under the radar and Rinne has been put in the spot light.
