The habs may trade for Vinny, but it will not be Markov going the other way...personally, Vinny's contract is too long, 11 years at 7.7M? Just too long...
That's filling a hole by creating another one. Habs have a few promising offensive D prospects (Weber, Subban in particular), but none of them are ready for the NHL and a few years away from dominating like Markov is right now IF their development goes smoothly. Look at the Pens' stats since Gonchar came back if you need further proofs of just how important players like Markov are to a team who wants to be successful.
Bob Gainey's building his team around Markov and Price. They're not going anywhere unless it's an outrageous overpayment. I don't even think he'd do Markov for Vinny straight up.
I know some Habs fans will kill me for saying this but that's probably not enough to get Vinny, and yeah, I realize that Markov is one of the best in the game. Maybe add a strong prospect or another roster player (a Kostitsyn or something) and then TB may listen.
It is a fair deal in terms of league wide value, but in Montreal's situation it is not ideal.
Markov is the habs MVP by a long shot.
Vinny for Markov makes the habs worse.
No deal.
I would rather have the Kostitsyn Brothers and a collection of picks and prospects which include either Ryan McDonagh or PK Subban.
Trading for Markov would just mean its a 3 way deal and the Lightning flip Markov to another team, by the time the Lightning will be good again Markov will have left as a Free agent.

We will be able to get Lecavalier for much less than that the close we get to next season when the Lightning's ownership has to pay him his salary and they can't find the cash...
Seriously though, Markov has a NTC and I highly doubt he'd accept that trade.
If this is offered, I think Anaheim has to consider getting into the bidding and getting the 2nd best center-center combo in the league, as I'm sure they'd be willing to give up Pronger plus a few other assets, they're rebuilding the D-corps anyways.

There is no reason for the Lightning to acquire Pronger unless its a 3 way deal.
Or something along those lines. Hemsky is an ideal playmaker for Stamkos signed on a good contract, Visnovsky replaces Dan Boyle, who the Bolts never should've let go in the first place.

Pronger isn't needed yet Markov is? Pronger makes your team so much better.
No Pronger is not needed. There is no reason to trade for a 34 year old defenseman when the Lightning won't be in the playoffs for the next couple years.
Besides, I said we shouldn't trade for Markov for the same reason.

Markov + 1st is a better deal than that for Tampa, I would say.

I beg to differ. A healthy TB club next season with the addition of a plug or two on their 2nd/ and 3rd lines and their a playoff team again...

No, the Oilers offer is better. A trade with Markov as the centerpiece doesn't make much sense though, it's more likely to be a pile of young talent going to the lightning.
If you're Tampa, then you're building around STAMKOS, of course they would want a playmaking forward like Hemsky who's on a steal of a contract to pair with him.
Besides, really if the Oilers wanted to beat that package, they could just up their pick to their own 1st, which will be higher than Montreal's.
