Which trophy is "better"? That is, if you had to rank all the trophies according to prestige, what would rate higher, the Art Ross or the Hart.
I chose Art Ross because it isn't subject to debate. The best offensive force in the game gets the trophy, while the Hart is decided by a bunch of journalists.
One is earned on the ice.....the other is voted on by people who don't even play. Enough said.
These days, I actually think it is more of an accomplishment to win the Lester B. Pearson trophy over the Hart considering the Pearson is voted on by the peers you play against...not someone sitting behind a desk.

Plus the Pearson is "Most Outstanding" player whereas Hart is "Most Valuable".

I half agree. I think Hart > Art Ross.... but i would put the Pearson above the Hart

A bunch of Journalists whose sole job is to spend 100% of their time watching Hockey and making these articles and voting.
The Hart is easily the more prestigious award.
How the hell is it fair to goalies and defensemen and complete forwards to think otherwise?

I'm willing to bet ATLEAST 75% of the NHLers don't watch a single minute of hockey.
Hart is voted on by people who actually watch games.
IMO, Joe Thornton's vote would be skewed because he plays EC teams once a season, if that. Because of this, he'll prob vote for the player he sees most often, and prob end up voting for Iginla, instead of someone more deserving like AO or Malkin.
Same thing for EC players voting for their own conference as oposed to the west. It's not an east/west bias, its simply lack of games played vs half of the league.
Oh, and yea, Hart is much more presitgious. You're the most vital piece to a (usually) contending team.
2nd would be art ross. It combines goals and assists. Pretty much shows that you are a complete player offensively and better than most, if not all, forwards in the world. This is also much more presitgious than the Richard because goal scorers can mooch off a good play maker (Guerin, Cheechoo, G. Murray off Thornton, Gagne and Hejduk off of Forsberg, etc).
Well when Jagr was winning his art ross trophies in 2000 and 1995, IMO he was the best player regardless of what some biased canadian journalists think. They screwed him twice, hence why he has 3 lester b pearson trophies.

Oh Please........We can debate to death that Pronger did not deserve the Hart. I would agree on that count, but Lindros did and its not like Pronger ran away with it. He won by a single point and was the clear Runner up even if he did not win, close to deserving the win.
Lindros carried the Flyers more than Jagr carried the pens and tied Jagr in scoring in 95. Seeing as you always love piling credit on linemates....Jagr was centered by a Prime Ron Francis and with A still high scoring Luc Robitaille, Larry Murphy on the backend and others, like Cullen, Mullen, Kevin Stevens, etc still on the team. Lindros had Renberg and Leclair and, Brind Amour. Factor in that Lindros was better defensively, and more of a physical force and its clear.
For the record, most of the Journalists who get a vote are not Canadian.
