Oilers acquire:

Roberto Luongo

Canucks acquire:

2009 1st Round Pick
2010 1st round pick
Jordan Eberle
Taylor Chorney

Luongo is a franchise goalie with a few solid years left in him; Roloson is too old to build around. Eberle is a sniper who THN rated as the 17th best prospect in the NHL; Chorney is a solid prospect as well. Also consider that Edmonton most likely will have a top-14 pick this summer.

As an Oilers fan I think it's an overpayment, but would do it anyway just because this organization isn't a Cup contender yet and building around Luongo seems like the best way to go since we don't have any budding franchise forwards/dmen.

Flame away.

As both Canucks and Oilers fan, i dont think it make sense for both team, a big fail from me. Why? Luongo only has one year left on his contract, it doesnt make sense for him to go to a rebuilding team, what are the odds that he will re-sign with the Oilers, and make the matter worse, they have trade away their first round away in a deep draft.

From Vancouver POV, are you kidding me, when did Vancouver get a franchise goalie like Luongo, why would we want to give him up for anything other than superstars like Crosby.

I think that pretty much answers your proposal, good try but needs some edit.

Its not THAT bad however the canucks would probably want more established players. if lou was on the market the canucks could get alot more than this package.

it would have to be more along the lines of
two 1sts
top 10 prospect
young established nhl player (#2 dman or 2nd line forward)

Look, OP, I'm very sure that if Luongo was up for sale that two things are guaranteed.

a) We're not trading him to a Division Rival.

b) Vancouver would likely get a fair bit more than what you offered for our Franchise Goaltender.

Would the Avs trade away Roy? would the Devils trade away Broduer? Would the flames trade away Kippisoff?

Then why would we want to trade away Luongo for just picks, prospect or young players? The way i see it, it will have to come to

First line player (elite forward)
First pair defenseman (elite defenseman)
Three first round

Yeah, its a massive overpayment, but this is how much we dont want him to go.

Gagner would have to be the starting point; beyond his skill, his dad is in the Canucks organization and he and Cody Hodgson would be a nice fit, either on the same line or down the middle. Eberle would also have to be included; this is Luongo, after all. Add in a high-end D and a 1st and that's probably your package.

First of all, why Kesler over Hodgson? What did Hodgson and Eberle did to get the top 6 role? And i hope its a joke that Grabner is playing in the bottom 6, he is not very good defensively, he is a pure scorer.

Second of all, we will NOT trade Luongo. As much as i want the oilers to get better goaltending next season, Luongo is not coming to the Oilers unless he choose to sign with the team when he becomes UFA.

Having Roberto = 1st round picks are pretty much 2nd round picks so no.

If Van dealt Luongo to Edm Probable return would be Gagner Gilbert Eberle and a 1st.

you'd also have to be making such trades in EA sports, because it would NEVER EVER happen in reality.

There's no way you deal Luongo to a division rival... absolutely NONE! and plugging 1st round picks and prospects or even young players that will not make the team a contender is not something that Vancouver would do.

They are a legit contender right now, not a rebuilding team. And even if they lose their UFAs and end up having to rebuild, you do not trade your franchise player who's just starting his prime years, to a division rival.

Only chance that Edmonton has of getting Luongo is on the UFA market or if he's acquired from another team. The type of offer that would even get the canucks to start thinking of making a move like this would be something ridiculous that Edmonton would never consider.

We, the Canucks, are legitimate contenders... Why on earth do we trade our all-star goalie and captain? And why would we EVER trade him within the division?

We're not rebuilding... This makes no sense for Vancouver. Even IF Luongo wouldn't re-sign we'd trade him to some team out East for a package of picks and players.

From the Oilers point of view you'd be stupid to do this as well... You give up all that and Luongo walks in the offseason after next season. He's not gonna re-sign with Edmonton, he wants to play for a legitimate cup contender. If he decides Vancouver is not that team, then there is NO way in hell Edmonton is that team.

EDIT: Oh and IF this were to happen (never would) Gagne, Eberle and two firsts would probably be a good base.

Luongo has a NTC and I doubt he would waive it to go to a non contender

Vancouver-Edmonton-Calgary are three teams you will never see deal with each other.

Even if they would, the Canucks would ask for Sam Gagner in this case.

And the Oilers would say no, because Luongo is a UFA after next year ... for all they know he could sign in Tampa Bay or Philly or something and leave them for nothing after one season.

Van would be dumb to trade lou unless they decided to start rebuilding. Not too many teams would trade for him unless he was locked up to a longer term.

I'm very sure many teams would prefer Luongo regardless of his contract situation.
