Not sure if anyone else saw it, but it was great. And I agree. His number should be retired. It's already up there for Henri Richard, so we won't even lose another jersey.

Retire Lach's 16.

There is a very, very good chance the team already plans to, but they held it off from this season's ceremonies.

I loved that opening scene with Lach playing street hockey.

Thanks for sharing that, especially the link. I really hope that the Habs do something for both Lach and Butch Bouchard while they're both still with us.

Thanks for posting this GV. I met Elmer Lach at a Habs function about 5 years ago. He was quite friendly, and I found myself mesmerized while I sat and and listed to him tell some old stories.

I agree, Lach's name should be up in the rafters with all the other greats.

elmer lach s 16 is actualy retired. so is aurele joliat s number 4.

if you look up the montreal canadiens section in an old nhl official record book circa 1996 or earlier their numbers were retired. when they moved from the forum to the molson centre they only kept henri richard and jean beliveau as the names related to 16 and 4. they just dropped the 2 older guys. pretty disrespectful if you ask me but few ppl if any at all picked up on it!

Was at he event a couple weeks ago. Very pleasant evening. Had I known the CBC crew was national rather than local I might have accepted their offer to chat on camera.

Have spoken to Mr. Lach on several other occasions and found him to be very accomodating and generous with his memories.

Both Lach and Joliat #s should be retired. Years ago I thought it was. Irregardless, there should be banners up there with the rest of the greats for these two. Not like we would be restricting more numbers anyways, 16 and 4 are already retired.

I'd love to see Henri Richard and Jean Beliveau at centre ice in a ceremony to honor the 2 guys that wore their jerseys previously.
