Who Still Thinks It Was Renney's Fault?

I've said all along it was a little bit of both (players and coaching), but I'm curious to see how you guys feel about it now. So, do you still think Renney deserved to be canned?

Honestly, going forward, even if they dont make the playoffs this season I like Torts behind the bench more than Renney. Torts will bring this team hopefully back to where they should be, and thats top 4 in the east.

Yes. With Renney it would be a snooze-fest and we would lose. At least now losing is a little more exciting.

Plus, I feel that the players haven't fully become accustomed to Torts' system. Next season we'll know for sure.

The fault was always with the poor assembly of talent (thanks Glen Sather!). The coaching change was putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.

nothing has changed in my opinion. I just dont think you can fix something that was so broken, so quickly. Renney should have been fired WAY before. Unfortunately our schedule down the stretch is sickeningly bad. We played nothing but good teams or red hot bad teams.

I have this gut feeling that there's going to be a bigger shakeup than anyone is thinking. I don't think Torts is happy with his top-paid defenseman and two top-paid forwards.

I think one of those three guys isn't on the team next year.

Renney wasn't helping.

If you look at the quality of the teams we've had to face since he took over it has not been easy. Even teams like Atlanta and Ottawa were on long win streaks when we faced them.

Some people still expect perfection though, even though Torts has coached this team for less than 20 games.

I'd take Torts' .500 or so record over Renney's 2 wins in 12 games any day. And don't tell me it's only because we got a few players at the deadline, because most of the teams we faced also got much better.

yes, still glad renney was fired. they may still be pathetic and inconsistent, but at least they forecheck a little...sometimes.

I do. We aren't good enough defensively to play well in a defensive system, and that is why this team is in such a bad position right now.
----------------------------------------------
This team has good offensive players.......which means that we are a team that will only play well in a offensive system.......which means that we completely suck under Trappy McTrapperpants AKA Tom Renney............which is why we couldn't, and to a degree still can't, score..........which is why we aren't in a better position........which is why he was fired..........which is why this thread was made.

See what I did there?

It wasn't purely his fault, but he didn't really help much.

Renney had to go and Tortorella hasn't made them much better.

Renney had to go, in my opinion. It just happened too late. I think if given a full season to put together a plan from the beginning, Tortorella will do a good job. I do think the offensive strategy is a bit better under Torts, but it's still not ideal obviously.

Renney was just a scapegoat. It was never him, but Sather and the personnel. Sather knows he has to do something this off-season to redeem himself, such as trade away Drury or Redden and sign Gaborik

Renney had it go. The team looks much better then they have the previous 2 months still. Look at the schedule we've played against since Torts came.

Anyway, I said before it would be gravy if we made the playoffs this year since I didnt expect the team would be able to change to an entire new system and play it well in the remaining games while every other team was in prime form with their systems by now.

It wasn't all Renney, but he was part, a decent part. Now get rid of the players who can't work in this system (NASLUND) and bring in another North South player.

Someone just brought this up to me, and I want to pose it. While we all know Sather isn't being fired, what does everyone think about Renney for GM?

I'm lukewarm on it. He's smart enough for the job, but he's more a player development guy.....

This team won't significantly improve until $26 million of the budget is no longer being spent on four 2nd and 3rd line players.

I stand by what i had thought originally.

The problems are 99% player personnel.

Renney didn't need to be fired, the roster needed and still needs a huge overhaul.

Tortorella gets in his own way sometimes. And with this roster, that's not helping matters.

Major changes to the roster need to be made this summer.

5th seed when Renney was fired. 8th or 9th to end the season. The players didn't perfom as they should have and that was neither Sather's or Renney's fault, only the players. And the players cost Renney his job.

I think Renny wanted Naslund and Redden. The Vanilla Twins.

Not sure if the alternative was any better, whatever that may have been....

I miss Jagr

No Jagr = Rennys Rangers not so scarey... still have a good goaltender. But no Elite forwards

This team lost all its edge and threat over last summer. Today was a clear example the roster is not BIG enough, not skilled enough and not passionate enough to overcome their other faults...Its just an "OK" team.

Still like to see them make the playoffs, ya never know. But they might not deserve it. Better beat Montreal
