Lehtonen has looked like the goalie ATL has expected him to be and now they are going to deal him?
I really like O'Sullivan but I think I hang onto Lehtonen. I don't know if the Thrashers can rely on a rookie goaltender next season when Kovalchuk is set to become a UFA. ATL has to show some promise if the intend to keep Ilya around beyond next season.
First we start by removing Penner since he is worthless.
Then the trade becomes
To Edmonton:
Lehtonen
Esposito
To Atlanta:
2nd
O'Sullivan
now we break this part down
Lehtonen>O'Sullivan
A young number.1 goalie is better than a guy who can't even score like a second liner at this point. O'Sully hasn't lived up to the hype and there is a good chance that he won't. The argument that Lehtonen hasn't lived up to his potential goes out the window when you realize that O'Sullivan hasn't either.
Esposito>2nd round pick
Why would anyone trade a prospect that has a pretty good chance of developing into a second line center for a pick? The 2nd round pick is too risky. Esposito used to be a favorite for the First Overall choice. His talent is undeniable and he is MUCH safer than some random pick.
plus they have Pavelec whos ready to be an NHL starter in a year or two and played well when he got called up. (May not look like it since they are a bad team)

pavelec was brutal yesterday
he is not close to the nhl yet and the thrashers need to win next season to keep kovalchuk (who WILL re-sign there if they are in playoff contention next season)
a healthy lehtonen on his game is one of the top 10 goalies in the league.
the thrashers already have 2 2nd line cneters
what they need is a first line center or a top line RW and lehtonen is not moving for anything less

Pavelec was constantly over-committing last night. The Caps took advantage of him in the first period, scoring three goals on ten shots. The last two periods, they mustered only one goal on sixteen shots, and it had nothing to do with anything Pavelec changed. The defense just got better, is all.
In the 12 games he's played here this year, he is 3-7-0 with a .880 SV% and 3.60 GAA. Brutal.
His technique alone shows that he isn't ready for the big show. "Bad team" or not.
This will work well since.
MacT is getting fired
Eberle worked well is Angelo Esposito and he'll struggle in Atlanta
Roloson is gone and Deslauriers is brudle. Edmonton will shop for Lehtonen and I can see him in Edmonton.
This will lead them to the playoffs.
Well who knows they might just take Lehtonen.

I don't see Lehtonen in the league in 4 or 5 years time to be honest (if that).
He's still in his 20s but already taking cortisone shots to play.
And honestly Penner may be the whipping boy for Mac T in Edmonton, but I don't think he's been treated all that fairly. The guy still scored almost 20 goals buried on the third line.
On a more offensive squad like Atlanta I could see him netting 25-30 not at all unlike Lupul's scoring totals shooting up after going to Philly.
O'Sullivan I think in time will also be a good high-scoring forward.
