If your buddy thinks THIS YEAR, Komi is our best, tell him to go watch tennis

I'd say Kovalev (when he wants to) and Markov

Who is your best player?

I've been having an argument with my pal, who is a Don Cherry type, about who the best player on the Montreal Canadiens.

Last year he said Price and I said Kovalev, overall I say Markov and he says Komisarek.

Any comments as to who may be right?

Best how? The team collapses when Koivu isn't around, so its probably him. Best statistically? Most important to the team? Best shot?

Really hard to debate.

The team actually played better when Koivu was out of the lineup. There is a post someone around showing that we won a lot and lost little with Koivu out of the lineup

Markov (should be Kovalev, but not with his frequent vanishing act!)

Markov this season. There is not one other player on this team that has played as well as he has as consistently as he has this year.

Markov no question. He rarely took a night off this year. I think we'll see this week how important he is to our team.

Last year was a rarity, in that Markov may not have been our best player (though he was close, and it took an exceptional year from Kovalev to make it a question). Really, he's been our best player of the whole decade.

Price is the one guy that could unseat him currently on the team, but he's not there yet.

The fact that you even have to ask this question shows that Marky is so underrated.

Man...I hope Markov isn't out for a long time because that would be devastating, but part of me wants him to miss some time just so Habs fans/analyst can realize how much he impact he has on the Habs

The Habs best player is Markov...and like you said, by a lot...its not even close or debatable

kovalev has the potential to be the best player. When he plays well, the team does the same.

But from an overall standpoint, I think markov is our best player. He plays in all situations, logs the most minutes, plays against the opposing team's best players, and leads the team in points.

Markov by a mile.

Kovalev is the most talented guy and can reach incredible heights when he's on (like right now), but Markov is pretty much at the same excellent level the vast majority of the time.

You are right. Markov this year (Komisarek isn't even close IMHO. he's having a pretty bad year). Last year it was Kovalev.

I still think it's Markov...in fact, i'd venture to say he's been the Habs most valuable player bar none the last 3 years

Kovalev was a beast offensively last year...but Markov was a beast at both ends of the rink. Again, I don't think people appreciate everything he does for the Habs...(wasn't referring to you specifically)
