Now up at the Islanders site, as well. Still no financials, except that it's a one-year deal.

A "youth movement" doesn't mean NO vets. It means you develop a young core.

Isles should sign another vet or two this summer. The kids need some vets to lead.

I love this signing.

Fits perfectly into the youth movement as the old wise vet.

Unofficial player coach?

Heh...

Couldn't get rid of him at the deadline this season and now get a second crack at it...

He is always talking to the youth when I watch Islander games.

The perfect role model for those young dynamic players to look up to.

Savvy re-signing.

Good for Dougie and the Isles. One of my favourite players from the mid-late 90s

Does this mean no Tavares? should we win the Lottery. I can see Hedman selected instead. We already have Bailey, Nielsen and now Weight for next season.

That's pretty dumb.. not drafting someone because you have a vet for next season.

I'm not sure of the Islanders situation, so I can't make a comment on who they should take.

If they want Tavares, draft him. If they want Hedman, trade down to the #2 (get an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder) and take him.

so bc weight is here for one season, in the beginning of a rebuild, you cant take a "franchise" center whod be here the next 10 years?

I don't think re-signing Doug Weight has any impact on the Islanders' draft choices, at all.

Good for Weight. It's nice to know that players aren't anxious to bail on Long Island the second they can.

very surprised he agreed to a 1 year deal with the uncertainty surrounding the future. He could be out of a job after next season or facing a major pay cut.

Can always trade him for some picks next year, if he's any good.

Nice. I like Weight.

Still if it was me I wouldn't sign with one of the worst teams in the NHL... But Weight is extremely important to NYI right now to get better.

Weight already has a Stanley Cup ring and fits in with the Isles like a glove. Why wouldn't he come back?

Smart move by Snow bringing him back. Would have been a if he didn't.

Maybe he would want another cup?

I didn't mean that in a negative really... He does fit really well with the team, and I do want to see them get better.

I like the signing for another reason....it means there's an Islander pivot that gets better than 45% from the fo circles.

Nielsen's ok, but Bailey is horrible.

The deal includes a base salary of $2 million plus a $200,000 bonus if the Islanders make the playoffs and will count $2.2 million against the salary cap.
